New South Wales Experiences Coldest Winter in 12 Years!!!!!!!!

SYDNEY -- Authorities said New South Wales is experiencing its coldest winter in 12 years, as daytime temperatures in August plummet to their lowest since 1990. The mercury dropped to 15.9 degrees Celsius, making it the nippiest winter since 1998 and the 16th coldest winter on record. According to Shannon Symons, a climatologist at the Bureau of Meteorology (BoM), the widespread downpours also led to the wettest winter since 2005. She added that the northern inland regions received above, to above average rainfall and that was recorded in the months of July and August. That trend is also the case for much of New South Wales. The inland rainfall had been linked to the La Nina phenomenon which generates cooler than average sea surface temperatures in the equatorial Pacific Ocean. New South Wales recorded an average of 136.9 mm of rainfall this winter, which is 20.9 mm above the average level. The BoM said August witnessed its coldest daytime temperatures since 1990 and its wettest month since 2003. Symons said temperatures are expected to rise as New South Wales settles into spring in the coming months, adding that the La Nina is likely to dissipate by summer, but as it continues, New South Wales could still experience above average rainfall and warmer nights.
