Ok GLP, I have a problem...

Tonight (around 8pm) we were out walking. Rather suddenly we noticed that there was a pepper smell in the air. Noticed it pretty strongly for the few minutes it took us to get back home.
Went back out about 30 minutes later, no smell.

In passing I mentioned to my husband our experience...he said you know, around 2 this afternoon I was outside and noticed it smelled a lot like pepper, kinda made me want to sneeze.

What my daughter and I smelled was so strong it burned my throat and made my eyes water.
I had her pull her shirt up around her mouth and nose on the way home.

I cannot find anything to suggest what we smelled AND what my husband smelled 6 hours and several miles from where we were.(but same city)

What do you think, GLP? What was that?
