i just looked at google earth and south of Nashville,
where the Smokey mountains (the southern tip of the Appalachians system) ends... there you have a crater like structure, crystal clear... apparently. I had not got imagery and had not read anything of this area before, but
would make a search.

Perhaps it´s an impact crater, perhaps a supervolcanic
crater...

**Or ... Perhaps Both !! ... An "Impact Crater" ... That By Impact ... Caused Such Upheaval ... Punching A Hole Through ... To Allow Pressures & Forces That Were Built Up (Along With These Pressures) .... To Burst Force

it seems too large to be volcanic, however it´s for sure that the eastern coast of the continent once &( for long time) experienced volcanism similar to the western side...
