One thing I meant to ask ST, and its important to me because I feel like maybe my job here on Earth is just
to be an observer of the changes and this particular aspect of the plant death is puzzling me and I can't find a
reasonable solution.

But why the sudden excessive and absurdly rapid growth of lichen/moss all over these dying trees? As far as I know lichen and mosses are not parasitic,

so this is not a case like the bark beetles and other insects where they are able to multiply rapidly by taking advantage of trees weakened by the sources I listed above.

Now many of the lichens do thrive in Nitrogen rich environments, and we humans do indeed produce much
nitrogen pollution. But this is not a new thing. We have been producing such pollutions for a long time. While this
extremely rapid spread of the lichens is just within the last couple years. So what is going on here?
