This year, the commemoration follows a summer in which opposition to a planned Islamic community center near the World Trade Center site escalated into a national uproar over Islam, extremism and religious freedom. Islamic centers as far away as Murfreesboro, Tenn., and California faced protests and vandalism. In western New York, police said a group of teenagers recently yelled obscenities, set off a car alarm and fired a shotgun during two nights of drive-by harassment at a small-town mosque near Lake Ontario. By contrast, when the Heartsong Church in Cordova learned a mosque would be built next door, pastor Steve Stone erected a six-foot sign reading "Welcome to the Neighborhood." The church, located on Houston Levee, has even invited their future neighbors to pray in the Heartsong sanctuary during Ramadan. But tolerance is more the exception than the rule. Usama Shami, board chairman for the Islamic Community Center of Phoenix, said a new mosque the congregation has been building for years drew little attention until recently, when some resistance emerged in the neighborhood and from some in city government. Recently, vandals broke into the new building, spilled paint on the floor and broke expensive windows. Anonymous Coward User ID: 907393 Canada 09/08/2010 10:43 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | $10 says the "tolerant" muslims made the church remove or cover any crucifixes, and the "tolerant" christians did so, effectively making their "kind gesture" pointless. "Tolerance" (according to the new socialist definition) equals "roll-over." Ever notice how the intolerant ones are really just those who refuse to give up their convictions for perversion and loss of individualism? Yup, $10 says the christians gave up their First Amendment rights for the Muslims and this is what liberals think is "tolerance." |

Racism is a tool used by leaders whom wish to remain blood sucking useless eaters....mostly because its all they know. They too can be taught evil is wrong, but it will take a ton of work. |

Our pastor taught us about other religions and how they differed. As teenagers, he even took us to services of other denominations and other religions so we could experience them. It's amazing how many of these people who call themselves Christians don't even seem to follow the teachings of Jesus. How do they justify their judgment of others in the name of somebody who said not to judge? |

I'm proud of how this pastor and his congregation show what being a true Christian really means. That's not to say that we don't have intolerant people who call themselves Christians. I'm sure if this center had tried to set up next to Bellevue Baptist all sorts of hell would be raised. The pastor of that church once called the Pope the "antichrist" and lead a charge to have a congregation through out of the Southern Baptist Convention for having a woman pastor: [link to www.highbeam.com] Southern Baptists ... the Wahhabis of Christendom. Anonymous Coward User ID: 1093750 United States 09/08/2010 11:02 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The pastor brings his masonic traditions into the christian church which says "have no other gods". Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1077240What a shill. You're quite ignorant...Christians and Muslims have the same God...Muslims even have high regard and believe that Jesus was a prophet just as Muhammad was and the reason they don't want Muhammad ever be shown is because at his request he didn't want to ever be "worshipped" or "idolized"...and I'm a Christian, BTW...some of yoy people need to really educate yourselves before producing so much blind hate, WWJD |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 907393 Canada 09/08/2010 11:07 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I got $10 - PROVE ME WRONG! Quoting: DrPostmanYou're the one who is making the claim. I don't have to prove a negative. I didn't make ANY claim, I made a bet that that was what occurred. You and the others are the ones making claims here with your ASSUMPTIONS that nothing like this took place and the consequent admonishing of others who don't believe what the OP and others are trying to push as an example of "tolerance." I didn't even make any assumptions. All I did was place odds on how I see it. |

The govt didn't even have to get involved. +100000000 anything that keeps us from having to kill eachother is good news... Plus the citizens did it on their own accord. Fredoom at work... Without funds from the fed or a month of ad council force feeding or a month of dbag parades... Thanks for the post up Nikki. Last Edited by MacktasticShagswell on 09/08/2010 11:27 PM |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 956677 United States 09/08/2010 11:25 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Religion is cultural mostly. That's why the "Jews" are not a race any more than the "Christians" are a race or, brace yourselves, the "Muslims". There are assholes, radicals and evolved human beings in all of Abraham's children...just like the Buddhists, Hindus, Confucians, etc. But karma/responsibility applies to all...including the Reichwing, Taliban and Zionists. Creation/God/Universe loves you all for some good you've done in your incarnations or you wouldn't be here as a human and even somewhat literate. Don't blow it. Praise be to the One, the Word. |
