I was expecting this. This current originates in the Gulf of Mexico and has to exit through the narrow passage between Florida and Cuba. The oil and corexit have changed the viscosity of the water and is causing the water levels to rise and fall and that is what is killing the current. If you study up on the ocean currents you will find that there is almost always a reverse current deep under the surface current. This is also true for the Straight of Gibralter. Anyways, disrupting the upper and lower currents at the same time is completely changing things.

Here in Florida we will be fine, but Scotland and Norway may be uninhabitable in a year. They will be just like northeastern Canada without the warm water.
