But now the United States Congress is trying to censor the Internet here at home. A new bill being debated this week would have the Attorney General create an Internet blacklist of sites that US Internet providers would be required to block. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1103755This is the kind of heavy-handed censorship you'd expect from a dictatorship, where one man can decide what web sites you're not allowed to visit. But the Senate Judiciary Committee is expected to pass the bill this week -- and Senators say they haven't heard much in the way of objections! That's why we need you to sign our urgent petition to Congress demanding they oppose the Internet blacklist. PETITION TO THE SENATE: Censoring the Internet is something we'd expect from China or Iran, not the U.S. Senate. You need to stop this Internet blacklist in its tracks and oppose S. 3804. Sign HERE! When Obama is gone, the rich will continue to pray on the weak. Obama is not important. Censoring is for small minded grandma's, stop it! And always paying for access to any (group of) websites will be the end of the inet as we know it. bah, i could give a fuck about what you wrote about, anyway most of us pay for the internet any way, you have to pay for the phone line, mostly now you pay for your cell, internet what ever in the same package, from the phone companys, wich are owned by the rich. so what ever, if allready 'cost" enuff, and as most of us lose jobs and homes, the cell phone and the inter net go with that, and you become little less the uber poor classes of people in our country, unless you lie to your self. "censoring", only matters to the middl and higher classes, they seem to think that they are allready not "censoring" the internet, wich is bs,cause over the last few year, i have read only many websites about how "really bad websites get banned, i can't wright the words here that tell what the site are or i will be banned from glp, m.......al......ware and other fun stuff.the list is endless, so "censorship" goes on all the time, nothing new. and |

Maybe America wants all the credit for such a "great" idea. To anybody that posts here & says a blacklist is a good idea is overly misinformed, this is not about blocking out child porn its about controlling media & stopping any sort of bad press from becoming public. Even if it does happen it does not take much to bypass such a filter so at the end of the day it a waste of time altho it might stop so many stupid people from accessing webpages like this one. |

User ID: 903456 Netherlands 09/30/2010 09:10 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | In the Netherlands we have the same problem. They are working on an internet-filter which should combat child-pornography. While this might appear as a valid reason, it's definitely the wrong approach. Instead of combating child-pornography, they are simply trying to hide it. And they use this excuse to implement the internet-filter. The danger here lies in the fact that they are not creating a law here which means they can blacklist whatever they want without a court-order. It's a cooperation between Ministry of Justice and the ISP's. We don't know which criteria will be used nor do get to have insight in which sites are actually blacklisted. My worrisome lies in the fact that i don't want to see torrent-sites getting blocked. Last Edited by Psych-old on 09/30/2010 09:11 AM |
