Anonymous Coward User ID: 1114392 Canada 09/29/2010 05:46 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | What is needed is a program that can detect whether or not a user of a particular website (ahem) is using broadband or dial-up, and at what speeds. The program would then select advertisements based upon this information. It is my experience, as a potential customer, that if the ads piss me off by slowing down my Internet and making my general experience shitty, that I will likely not only not purchase the product, but I will tell others not to as well. I'm all for the free market and the need for commercials, but you'd think advertising/marketing agencies would be a little more intelligent about how they do things. On another note. SOUND AND ADS. I think these are intrusive, not because I expect my computer to not be accessed when online (that's ridiculous), but because there may be a very good reason that I am not using my speakers at the moment. Maybe I am trying to record something that is being ruined by talking ads? Maybe the baby is sleeping? Maybe I am actually listening to a lecture or a fine musical piece? Maybe I have a migraine? And maybe it bogs my system down for some reason? To be honest, I think most people (aside from some of the scenarios that I mentioned) would put up with an occassional talking ad that they were not expecting (say every 30 minutes or so), but a constant barrage of unexpected audio is a whole 'nother can of worms... There's my two cents. Now take it and sell it. |
