Someone doesn't know what he's talking about. When people run out of unemployment benefits, that doesn't mean they no longer show up in the unemployment rate. Another "expert" who doesn't know shit. Read the whole article at the link ~ but to keep it simple, READ the WHOLE quote, Spanky: >>What's the bottom line here? Simply this: With lots of people running out of benefits, the number of unemployed showed a statistical drop of 93,000 people. At the same time, the number of people 'not in the workforce' increased by 175,000. Statistically therefore, the rate was able to hold steady.<< [link to urbansurvival.com] The UE stat supposedly decreased ~ however, those not in the workforce increased ~ a statistic wash when viewed with the splash of smoke of the birth/death model the BLS cooked up in a test tube. Ure is NOT saying that folks fall off the UE dole are included in the UE stat ~ you are incorrect ~ the number of unemployed who no longer receive benefits are NO LONGER included in the UE stat ~ very convenient for the BLS. :DJrebelli: |

askakido nli User ID: 985286 United States 10/09/2010 01:59 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Alternate Unemployment Charts Quoting: DaJavooThe seasonally-adjusted SGS Alternate Unemployment Rate reflects current unemployment reporting methodology adjusted for SGS-estimated long-term discouraged workers, who were defined out of official existence in 1994. That estimate is added to the BLS estimate of U-6 unemployment, which includes short-term discouraged workers. The U-3 unemployment rate is the monthly headline number. The U-6 unemployment rate is the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ (BLS) broadest unemployment measure, including short-term discouraged and other marginally-attached workers as well as those forced to work part-time because they cannot find full-time employment. [link to www.shadowstats.com] (More at posted link.) :Sep10UE: Gallup Finds U.S. Unemployment at 10.1% in September Underemployment, at 18.8%, is up from 18.6% at the end of August by Dennis Jacobe, Chief Economist [link to www.gallup.com] PRINCETON, NJ -- Unemployment, as measured by Gallup without seasonal adjustment, increased to 10.1% in September -- up sharply from 9.3% in August and 8.9% in July. Much of this increase came during the second half of the month -- the unemployment rate was 9.4% in mid-September -- and therefore is unlikely to be picked up in the government's unemployment report on Friday. (Chart/More at posted link.) From the BLS ~ THE EMPLOYMENT SITUATION -- SEPTEMBER 2010 Nonfarm payroll employment edged down (-95,000) in September, and the unemployment rate was unchanged at 9.6 percent, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. Government employment declined (-159,000), reflecting both a drop in the number of temporary jobs for Census 2010 and job losses in local government. Private-sector payroll employment continued to trend up modestly (+64,000). (More Party-line BS here: [link to www.bls.gov] ) On tonight's (Friday's) Parker & Spitzer Show on CNN they wer actually covering some of this, even the near 23% unemployment figures. I was somewhat stunned to see this being reported on CNN. Thanks for this informative post, Daj. |
