If you have not stocked up on fresh water and canned food do so now. It is a fact they are getting bigger and we don't know if people felt foreshocks before the big ones in 1812. It may be tomorrow or it may be in 20 years but now is the time to get ready. If the same magnitude of the 1812 quakes happened today it will be a worldwide disaster, Arkansas provides 1/2 of the worlds rice and soybean supply along with 1/2 of the nations poultry supply. This will cause worldwide famine. Not tryin to spread fear but you must be ready for this if another big one were to happen...

GUY, Ark. (AP) — The U.S. Geological Survey says two small earthquakes have struck two areas in Arkansas more than 150 miles apart. Local officials say no injuries or damages have been reported from either quake.

An estimated 3.8-magnitude quake shook the small town of Guy in Faulkner County at about 8:30 a.m. Monday. The U.S. Geological Survey says the quake happened 15 miles north-northeast of Conway and 40 miles north of Little Rock.

Another quake hit at almost the exact same time about 150 miles away in northeast Arkansas. The U.S. Geological Survey says the 3.9-magnitude earthquake was centered about 15 miles southeast of Paragould.

The seismic New Madrid Fault line runs throughout Arkansas

Unless they synchronize their drilling at the exact time this cant be fracking. While guy, Arkansas is not close to the New Madrid, Paragould is right in the middle of it. Those fucks putting holes in the ground probably woke up the dragon.

Impossible. Bill Clinton is from Arkansas. He would never let anything bad happen to his home.

OP, any idea about the telephone poles? Will they be okay? Tell us about the telephone poles!
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 932651

The telephone poles held a town hall meeting earlier today. After much heated debate, telephone pole spokesman Frankie Macdonald stated the Following. : ATTEEENTION! CITIZENS OF ARKANSAS! CITIZENS OF TENNESSEE! CITIZENS OF MISSOURI! EARTHQUAKE WARNING! WILL BE 8.8 OR GREATER! ALL TELEPHONE POLES WILL BE BROKEN! ALL TELEPHONES MUST LEAVE THE AREA IMMEDIATELY!" Worked up with fear, Frankie starts to cough so hard he spits up a little on his shirt. Spokesman Frankie Macdonald then spots an ice cream truck and sprints toward it seemingly losing all interest for his fellow telephone poles which, in his childhood, adopted him and raised him as one of them. More details later this evening when Frankie eventually tires himself from chasing ice cream trucks and stomping in mud puddles.

Earthquakes happen 'all the time' everywhere around the world. That is relative against the history of geology, not relative to human history.

It is possible, and most likely probable, that the area is waking up and getting ready for a major shift. It happened before and it will happen again.

Water and food may be of little help.

Most of the Mississippi Valley and surrounding areas is built from unreinforced masonry, basically stacked stone or brick. When the earth moves the mortar will easily break and crumble, allowing the brick/stone to shift and fall.

This is the horror of a large quake back east, there are no seismic building codes thus the damage will be far, far worse than if it took place in say California where things are built to an earthquake code.

It is highly probable that many will die if a quake hits back east, and many more will be buried in the rubble of buildings.

To make matters worse will be the firestorm(s). Few people back east have any idea where their gas shut off valve is, few have a wrench attached. Further, most of the gas lines are 'stiff' lines and not designed to flex. Broken gas mains under city streets will lead to explosions.

The better alternative is not so much to stock up and food and water but to have a clear concise plan of evacuation, have Dehydrated food ready to go (in packs) and to have the proper clothing available to walk many miles.

Think of San Francisco after the 1906 quake. The damage was due to fire, and vast amounts of people had to evacuate in front of the flames. this is going to be the case for major cities in the east if a 'big one' is unleashed.

this is completely different than san francisco. this will affect multiple states where most residents live in rural areas miles away from town and only a few cities big enough to be affected by fire. Dont listen to this guy, his advice will get you killed in the long run. GET WATER! GET FOOD GET CAMPING GEAR!

4.5 is not a large quake. A 6.0 would be a large quake (remember the scale is exponential).

The New Madrid Quakes of 1812 were estimated to each be 7.2 to 8.1, these are powerful wakes. the order of magnitude is huge compared to a 4.5.

This is the type of quake I am talking about.
