OP real question: what sort of life philosophy results in the situation today of India's people? Why such a lack of respect for human life? Is it not a question of respect at the end? Cannot these people be educated? Cannot the Ganges be cleaned up? Why is the Nile not in that state? Who, at the end, is responsible for this insult to humanity?

Who says we have lack of respect for human life? Every person who dies, whether rich or poor, is mourned not just my his family and relatives, but by neighbors, collegues etc.. Have you ever seen an Indian funeral? Our funeral rites go on for 14 long days..

Not just human life, we even respect animal life..thats why half of our country doesn't eat meat..Do you have similar respect for animal life?

As far as Ganges is concerned, there is a belief that anyone who dies in the river gets liberated from his or her karma. If you are a strict believer in hinduism, its a sort of salvation for the soul. As a result, millions of poor Indians from all over the country suffering from incurable diseases come to a couple of towns on the banks of Ganges to die.

All the pics from chinasmack websites are taken from just one town on the banks of Ganga..There are hundreds of other rivers, thousands of other towns where you would never see such pictures. So don't generalize about life in India on the basis of conditions in just one or two small towns..

Look, I just stated my opinion, no offense intended. We have more than enough of superficial trash in our music too. I hate it no matter from which country it comes. You just got caught in tail debris of my rage comet, heh.

India is in a way a symbol of income inequality and I cannot watch the glamourous having fun without thinking of the other pole. But you're right we're all quite the same - enablers of this fucked up system.

But if so many of you hate it, perhaps positive changes will come to your society. Good!

Its mostly the opposite. In India they generally find the lighter the skin, the more attractive.
In some instances its seen that if the woman is marrying a guy with skin darker than hers, shes marrying down.

They also find blue and hazel eyes very attractive.

There is still quite a culture shock though, be prepared for the most overbearing family ever! and not to be shocked from talk of future plans for marriage after dating for only a short time.

But the culture difference will only be a problem if either of you let it be. I was dating an Indian girl, it was a complicated situation, I was prepared to deal with the complicated situation but she wasnt. So it needs two people who can deal with the culture shock.

Read the Vedas & the Upanishads..or the Bhagwad Gita. These are the original hindu texts which are pure philosophy and free from any dogma or forced imposition of morality. It was much later, in the medieval ages, that the Brahmins took over and introduced newer texts like Manu smriti where they introduced caste system & hundreds of restrictions in order to consolidate their hold on non-brahmins.

The fascination of white skin was because the ruling class - brahmins - were fairer while the lowest castes were quite dark. But color of skin is no longer an issue with most urban Indians. Aishwarya Rai, India's most well-known beauty is dark..and so are many other bollywood heroines.
