Connected to Missiles???

Friends of mine just called me when i got home, they said at 2:45 pm cst they seen what looked like a plane taking off in the sky but was weird because it was going like a bat out of hell and straight up not at a slant like a plane would take off from an airport. They seen the trail/plume of it all the way home.
When i asked them about where they seen it, the directions they gave me would be in the area of Whitman Air Force Base in Knobnoster Mo.
Anyone else in Missouri see this and maybe confirm it? My friends would not lie about something like this, but they also have no proof of it either since they were driving down the road.
