power outage ever produce mental clarity/cosmic thoughts for anyone?

Funny you should mention it! Every time we have a power outage, I'm amazed by the absolute quiet. I can hear birdsong, breezes thru the trees, and traffic on the highway...but it all seems peaceful. We've commented on it before, but figured it was just something WE experienced and never bothered to speak of it to anyone else.

We have a transformer in our back yard and we've got a rather large cell tower about 3/4 mile from the house.

The first time this exact thing happenned to us was when we could not pay our electric bill: friday our power is shut off, the weekend was spent in surprisingly true bliss!

During our self-imposed outage, my husband and I seriously considered just throwing the switch on a regular basis in order to reclaim the sense of calm we were enjoying...

After the fact, though, this did not happen.

Ever since, any time the power goes out for whatever reason, I welcome this with open arms. While all of the neighbors are outside arguing 'I can't believe this shit!' etc, there I am with the widest grin on my face, as if I've received the best gift ever.

That one thing I like about being here on GLp--with so many people predicting an impending doom that will herald in off the grid living, my senses are constantly buffeted with thoughts of the end of electrical interference in my life; thus, these thoughts have grown into a sort of pre-adaptive force-field against all of the doom around here.

I like this feeling. Look, if and when doom does come, this is one small way to be prepared to cope with what would unfold.

My husband was an audio engineer and composer. During his life while we were writing songs, we were always tweeking sound in some way. My specialty was usually centered on the lower frequency sounds: "HOW l-o-w CAN I GO" to create a certain effect.

If and when the grid goes, I hope I will be that much more ready.

Likewise, should TPTB try frequency manipulation to mess with with our heads, as some here are predicting to happen this very night.

Great attitude Esoteric Morgan.

I think there is something to it. When the power is off there is a stillness and tranquility which I think has something to do with there not being all the usual electronic noise - and the acoustic noise that goes with it. No white noise-like whining from the laptop. No generator pumps. Etc etc etc.

I think the effect is often masked because power outage often comes due to thunderstorms, hurricanes, tornados, etc. During these times it's often noisy and stressful without the power outage, then the power outage is seen as an additional stress.

But I agree, if you are prepared there may be a bright side to having the power out (at least for awhile).

It may present an opportunity for enhanced tranquility, meditation, and imagination.

Maybe a good time to try to relax the body and mind deeper than usual, or think some positive cosmic thoughts that are usually lost in the hustle and bustle (if not downright electromagnetic chaos and blocking/jamming!) of the average day.


On a side note, let me advocate having a few solar yard lights for use when the power is out. You can grab one and use it inside as a flashlight. This lets you keep your main flashlights in reserve and not be worried about wearing the batteries out. You can read by them and it's nice to know that come what may, it will charge back up the next day and be shining bright again the next night.

Until your suggestion, I could not find a valid-enough reason to make such a purchase; now I think they are a necessity.
