BP 170 over 105 right now
Some quack doc put me on Lexapro for high blood pressure a couple years back. I'm still going thru withdrawal after a month. Went cold turkey. It may be part of the withdrawal symptoms but my blood pressure just now was 170 over 105. Earlier today it was 160 over 102. These numbers are not unusual for me since I started monitoring 2 weeks ago.

So, what's the secret to lowering my BP? Chamomile tea? Cannabis? No more pills for me.

1 or 2 tsps Cayenne Pepper in a small glass of warm water. Once or twice a day depending on your needs.

You may think I'm full of shit, so Google Cayenne Pepper. All the results you get are about it's benefits, especially to the heart/blood pressure.

Potassium and calcium.

It's hard to overdo the potassium, look at a supplement. Not a multi-vitamin, just plain potassium. It is only 4% of RDA.

Try a banana with every meal and a glass of orange juice in the morning.

exercise (walk at first keep your heart rate lower so you don't blow), eat healthy fats and proteins (fish, chicken some red meat), stay away from starchy carbs and sugars.

you might even get back on the meds for a little while to control the BP while you get use to exercise.

not sure really, my father just uses the BP meds to control his while he gets fatter and keeps smoking. Sad to say but he will probably not be around much longer.

The 170 is somewhat high the 105 diastolic is very elevated. I would seek further medical advice. I run 150/80 and this is on medication and they have a minor level of concern.

the word "no" is what doctors like to use.

Beer is fine, just don't overdo it. I drink about 6 oz (half a bottle) a day. Sugar is ok, too - in small amounts. Reality is, when you start exercising and drinking your water, your body will regulate the rest of the stuff. - e.g., you won't want the things that are not good for you.

OP: Are you overweight? Do you eat healthy? High blood pressure runs in my family and I have been on meds for over 20 years. I am not overweight, eat healthy and exercise. I still have to take meds. You probably should go back to the Dr. or at least call and tell them what your numbers are just to be on the safe side. They seem high too me.

Thanks for the inputs. I'm also diabetic so I can't do many bananas. But I will try the rest of the ideas, especially exercise. While on lexapro you have no gumption, you can't exercise or finish projects, but my BP was a steady 120/75. It's not worth it of course.

Now I'm doing a dozen projects at the same time. First goal is to go from 210 pounds down to 180. 180 is perfect for my body frame and heigth.

And seriously, the best BP temporary lowering activity is playing with my dogs on the floor. Sometimes puppies are the best medicine.

I'm 30 pounds overweight, but my pulse is usually in the lower 60s. I do take lysinopril and an aspirin everyday, but I'm not taking anything else. I'm a part time farmer/rancher so I'm otherwise in good shape, strong as an ox and almost as smart.

Google "Mukta Vati". A herb from India.

It worked wonders for me and my dad.

It takes about a week to start working.
Its pretty cheap, too, if you order it directly from India.

And I will exercise, probably running a half mile or so.

OP, be careful about running with a BP that high to start.
As you are a farmer/rancher..you might want to look here
I searched the site for BP already, but the whole site is fascinating..or check out the book "nourishing traditions"

There are a lot of things you can do that are just dietary, not really even supplementation.

That CoQ10 is interesting because it is related to pancreatic function, which I do not have.

Supplementing with calcium is not reccommendable on a standard western diet. We get more than enough from the dairy we eat.
What we usually lack is magnesium. Get Magnesium Citrate or Magnesium Malate.

WARNING @ Potassium.
Its no coincidence that potassium supplements come in such small capsules.
If you take large dosages of potassium and end up with an imbalance, you can end up DYING from a heart attack. I am not kidding. Do some research before you start supplementing with larger amounts of potassium. I'm being serious.

Bananas contain lots of potassium. You cannot 'overdose' on the potassium you get through bananas (or any other fruit/vegetable).

And before people start yelling "Shill Alert", do your own research on potassium supplementation.
And @ Calcium, if you are getting enough from your diet already, you will only further imbalance your magnesium levels by supplementing with calcium. Plus you might clog your arteries even more with all that calcium.

Get some vitamin D3. Its cheap and is needed for calcium uptake + loads of other good things.

Correct. Putting me on Lexapro for HBP is why I consider that doctor a quack. Very very bad symptoms for withdrawal.

be sure you have all the lexapro out of your system. then, supplement potassium, magnesium, iodine and selenium. DO the watercure from dr batmangehlij's book "your body's many cries for water.

its really that easy. oh, and by the way, throw out your table salt and use only unrefined salt such as redmonds realsalt or maybe some pink himalayan, if you can find the real thing any more.

cayenne is the best but you have to take lots of it.

D supplementation is controversial and, imho, dangerous.

and potassium? you cant hurt yourself eating potassium. injecting it in to your bloodstream, well that is what death row people get in their final injection to stop the heart. lesson - dont inject potassium.

in fact, go right now and shake about a quarter teaspoon of salt in your hand, lick it and chase it with a big glass of water. you will measurably lower your BP in a couple of minutes. try it and report back. BIG glass of water - 12-16 oz.
