Absolutely totally through illegal methods:

1-It is against Alaskan law for the state to provide a list of write in candidates, but they did.

2-Write in candidates names must be spelled correctly, but they counted everything that had a M.

I'm not familiar with Alaskan law regards write-in's but I do believe Miller would have been all over any violations, A.C.

Also, there have reportedly been over 8,000 write-in's challenged, which mean they have been withdrawn from the count. Your information is incorrect. The Miller people were quite demanding regarding the spelling of her name. Hence, the large number of challenged votes. She was still ahead by a wide margin.

If Frankie and Lisa had ever given a damn about their constituents, they might've taken steps to bring in industry and manufacturing, gotten some defense manufacturing in-state and found money to develop more roads and open up property. None of that happened. AK can't even support a local dairy.

Ahh, Lester. I'm having trouble remembering you, but you've been here since '04, so perhaps I'll recall you in time. By the tone of this one we must have been rather close.

Lester, I have/had a rather rare and aggressive breast cancer and have been in treatment. I'm not through fighting/healing yet, and have a 50/50 prognosis, but I thought it was time to come and have a look-see around GLP.

I neither know, care about, or frankly, give a hoot about Murkowski. As far as I'm concerned she's just another woman who happens to live in a state where it's dayum cold, the residents can see Russia from their backyards (see Sarah Palin quotes), and shoot moose from helicopters.

As it happens, I actually agree with most of your statements regards the political world, but I take exception to your characterization of me.

I've been involved in that particular world almost all of my adult life, and am currently observing the mess private agendas have gotten our country and the rest of the world into.

From time to time I plan to engage in the conversations here, post a few threads I feel relevant to what affects us either negatively or to the positive.

I may even rant at times.

I am NOT from Alaska ... but a couple of comments:

Misspellings: The INTENT of the voter is clear even if the name is misspelled. THOSE WHO MAKE THE MISSPELLING ARGUMENT KNOW THAT ... and so does everybody else. They just don't want that voter to have any choice and are hanging their hat on any potential technicallity that they can find. Isn't the voting process about the CHOICE of the people? SOME DON'T THINK SO!

As to the issue of the Murkowski family being part of Alaska's problems: That may be true, I just don't know. However it has NO RELEVANCE to the what the ALASKAN VOTERS WANTED in their latest voting.

If Alaskans want to screw themselves, well under the democracy that we have in the US they are fully entitled to do so. After all look at California and New York.

Personally, even though I don't live in Alaska, I actually wanted the Tea Party candidate to win ... but sadly and obviously now the plurality of Alaskans had a different idea. It is now time to respect the election results.

It's a shame actually that the losing candidates often find ways to impede the obvious outcome.

No tip of the hate to this politician who comes from a dirty family. I think she is disgusting. Just proves the 2-party stranglehold on elections is solid - the Republican Party didn't get who they wanted in the primary, so they helped prop up Murkowski for the bid. This is no great victory for a write-in, it is a solidification of the stranglehold of the 2-party system.

No respect should be given to our current system. The voting system needs changed where a >50% majority is needed to win a seat. If there is no clear winner, then there needs to be a run-off between the top two. As backward as we say some South American countries are, at least many have instituted this form of voting which helps ensure TRUE MAJORITY.

Like you, A.C. 979114, I've come to the same distain of the two party political system, but the rise of the Tea Party is a good example of how what was probably originally intended to be a Republican dirty trick not only was infiltrated by kooks changing what I believe was intended to be a temporary movement to unseat Democrats for the November stalking_is_a_crimelections, backfired and now has the potential to remain as a mouth-piece for the disgruntled among us. Not the best vehicle for a third party, imho.

Regards, Murkowski, again, I don't know the woman, her history, or her politics. She's been given a mandate, and if she's unable to fill the bill, she'll be out next election.
