Army launches video-sharing site for the military- MILTUBE created by MILTECH-Agency of Program ExecutiveOfficeCommand,Control,Communications Tactical
Set up by MILTECH which is described and linked at the bottom. How bout a lump of sugar with that ulterior motive sir!

MilTube joins a suite of other Web 2.0 tools offered to the military, including MilBook, MilWiki, and MilBlog. Known collectively as MilSuite, these services are all part of the DOD's effort to provide more secure alternatives to commercial wikis, blogs, and social network sites.

MilTube and the entire MilSuite were originally designed by MilTech, a communications branch of the Army, a MilTech public affairs officer told CNET. But in an attempt to generate collaboration across the entire military, the tools were made available on a wider scale to personnel throughout the armed forces. MilSuite is currently available to anyone with the proper access and authentication, including service members, civilian employees, and support contractors, and now has more than 88,500 users.

It is one of 11 Program Executive Offices currently operating in the Army - program-specific organizations involved in acquisition. PEO C3T provides soldiers with Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (C4ISR) systems."

Check out their mission and vision statement.

I can think of another overseer(excuse the pun)that might be behind this too D_RP_.

The last 2 paragraphs on this article:

Between the DARPA tests and the thorough evaluation at Fort Benning, officials hope to provide a complete picture of WNaN's performance - including its potential for large-scale distribution to Soldiers. Theoretically, its advanced routing protocols can support scalability to thousands of nodes, allowing widespread deployment in dense environments.
"The current challenge is the more radios you add to a network, the harder it gets to pass information," Lubin said. "WNaN is just the opposite, in theory, in that as you add radios the network expands. That's really revolutionary."

Biowarfare!
Think of what could be done on both sides of the fence with this technology, not good!

Interesting, Blue Angel is mentioned in this.
I have pasted 3 very interesting paragraphs from this article:

DARPA effort speeds bio-threat response

[link to www.army.mil]

For the largest program, called AMP for Accelerated Manufacture of Pharmaceuticals, companies in four states are building facilities where they can quickly produce vaccine-grade proteins grown in the cells of tobacco plants. Once they produce the proteins, the goal is for each company to scale up its process to produce 100 million doses of H1N1 flu vaccine per month. Existing vaccine manufacturers worldwide produce a fraction of that -- about 300 million doses of vaccine in six months, Magill said.

"Anything in nature that produces a tremendous amplification of biomass was of interest," he added. "Clearly these weeds, that's really what tobacco plants are, grow very fast, and that's what we captured."

Another Blue Angel project is a technology called Modular Immune In Vitro Constructs, or MIMIC, which Magill calls "an immune system in a test tube." DARPA created MIMIC to quickly test new vaccines for safety and effectiveness.

Heres a link to the MIMIC project(Essentially a Clinical Trial in a Test Tube™ for human immunity):

Yeah, it looks like the military is giving its personnel an alternative to the regular locations on the web where information is regularly exchanged. Of course, these new alternatives can be more carefully monitored and regulated as the military commanders see fit.

To tell you the truth, I'm surprised that something like this wasn't done sooner.

A little late there on the draw, Tex...

Looks like it's using flash video on the miltube site.

Flash has a few, ummm, features, that one may not want to have behind a military firewall.

Silly people, oh well.

What's the problem, OP? There were major issues for a while, with command types freaking out about service members breaking OPSEC. We've only recently been allowed to access stuff like MySpace and Facebook from .mil computers. I think with all this MIL stuff, it'll at least be easier to keep track of. Time will tell how popular this gets, though.

I have commanded Combined Arms Teams.

The use of video projections have a use. However, they lack the fog of battle and the exhaustion of both commanders and soldiers which sets in after days or weeks in the field not to mention the impact of weather conditions, casualties and supplies.

No problem w/the enlisted having access to whatever they want on the internet. It's just who's behind the technology, the interfacing and tracking as well as D-r-A's agenda with this.
You being with the Navy especially know the technology and interfacing that has come about. Again I say "It's not the availiblity of internet for the Enlisted Personel I have reservations about, it's the interfacing and tracking communications (Big Gov)." Just like the agenda of the "Call of Duty" game and others like it. Even you have to admit D_R_A was behind alot of that too!

The Gov. basically owns you when you join, until and if you finish your tour. It's when it trickles down to the average Joe being owned that bothers me.
I have all due respect for those that serve to protect our Country, but it's not that simple anymore.

PS: I like your quote "The Guy" :)!
