I was a kid at that time, and I recall the real despair, sorrow, fear and anger that EVERYONE had regarding JFK's murder.

I also saw how kids latched onto the Beatles songs, like "I want to hold your hand" when they were released about three weeks later.

JFK's murder was truly a nation in mourning, not just words but a reality that people born since that time perhaps have experienced with 911.

The frenzied adoption of the Beatles, I think, was a desperate bid for life on the part of young people.

Led us all down a merry road, though, to where we are today.

(Side-note: my parents ran into JFK on the sidewalk of our little town one day in the late 1950's, when he was a senator. They greeted him, and he stopped to chat about the weather. No secret service, not entourage or tv cameras. Back in those days a politician could still walk about as any private citizen could, without fear or paranoia.)
