Sandra Dewar, from the Craigie area of the city, died from renal failure last Friday, just a fortnight after coming off dialysis.

The ''fun-loving'' 36-year-old had spent much of the last year bed-bound at Ninewells Hospital in Dundee and was warned by doctors there was little chance she would get home.

Paying an emotional tribute to the courageous former care worker, her younger brother William — who has had his sister's name tattooed on his arm — said he felt comfort knowing she is now ''at peace''.

The 31-year-old said his parents Jeanette and James, stepfather Freddie and sister Jeanette (35) are still trying to come to terms with their loss.

He revealed that Sandra chose to stop all medical intervention in secret — waiting several days before breaking the news to those closest to her.

''She could have lived up to another 10 years on the dialysis but she would have suffered a great deal,'' he said. ''Obviously we were very upset when we found out as we didn't want to lose her but we all respected her decision and knew we would not be able to change her mind.
