FLIERS IMMEDIATELY!! WITH PHOTOS...lots of them, if possible show all angles of the dog(s)?

Post and handout at every pet place, gas station, bus stop, grocery store, radio station, etc.

Don't forget the pound...

Pray....

Re:
Check your local shelters often. In my state they can put them down after 72 hours of holding them and they do. Go down there yourself and check because they look on a list and often say no when dog is actually there because some employee there wrote down breed wrong. Also they may not show up there until months down the road so don't give up.

Like what Avian experienced some people won't return dog because they rationalize that you are a "bad" owner if your dog got out. Either that or they just want to keep it. I have known the "Peta nut types" to do this locally. Many members of these animal adoption groups will not return your dog even if it has your phone number on it! They want to find it a "better" home. Yep, these groups commit petty/grand theft (depending on worth of dog)and judge you as a bad owner. So if you can't find him then start checking the adoption sites for his picture.

I know this because I used to be an animal control officer and was forever battling these groups to give the dog back to the rightful owner.

Many years ago I lost a dog and my kids were frantic. I placed a display ad (like advertisers) with pic and reward in local newpaper on page 2 to get my dog back. It works well in smaller towns with smaller newspapers. I had the whole town helping me catch him. There were many sightings but he was too scared to come up to anyone. So when someone called and said they saw him I jumped in my car and went. I finally was able to get him. The man that called refused the reward.

He was with me out in yard when a deer ran by and he chased it. It had been stormy weather so he had a hard time finding his way back.

This is why I hate pets.
It's always the trouble.

I said: Never again!

...and I stick to that.
