Anonymous Coward User ID: 642285 United States 01/02/2011 03:52 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Combine this with cell phone gps and you could track and surveil someone in real time wherever they went. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1209971Yes. But seems it would be costly and how many people at a time could be tracked via such a system? Sounds like it would be VERY SELDOM used on just an "ordinary" citizen. Somehow they would have to justify the expense, etc. Once there are dozens of these things up there and there is huge (almost limitless) capacity for tracking someone, then I'd worry. Right now, it's still somewhat limited ... the sats have a "footprint" that limits the area they can view depending on where above the earth they are at a given moment in time. BTW: I think that it takes 18 or 24 sats in geosynchronous orbit to cover the entire globe all the time. I'm certain that is the goal they will want to implement, but they will have to build and launch these 'birds" and that takes time and lots of $$$. To get public finding for such a thing would have been nearly impossible. My guess is this was developed and funded under the guise of a black budget item. Now it will come out into the light as the various government agencies think up more and more applications for the thing. Eventually they'll get it funded for world wide use, I'm sure. Or if not this and the tech changes rapidly, something else smaller, faster, cheaper and better will supersede it. |

FTW - bring freedom here first. GLP -Thanx for the pinnage. |

Prophet User ID: 850811 United States 01/02/2011 04:44 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | In Greek mythology, the Gorgon (plural: Gorgons) Gorgon was a terrifying female creature. It derives from the Greek word gorgós, which means "dreadful." While descriptions of Gorgons vary across Greek literature, the term commonly refers to any of three sisters who had hair of living, venomous snakes, and a horrifying gaze that turned those who beheld it to stone. Traditionally, while two of the Gorgons were immortal, Stheno and Euryale, their sister Medusa was not, and was slain by the mythical hero Perseus. This is what they call their 24-7 monitoring system. |

You do know that satellites in space use 8-12 inch lenses to view onto Earth and we know they get some real good detail. Now imagine this only 5000 ft up not 5 miles up and not having to deal with nearly the atmosphere interference. |

A supercomputer will be able to track thousands , maybe millions or 'targets' at a time, correlating past activities, creating pattern recognition maps to determine if target is engaged in 'subversive' behavior, then send the ai drones for closer surveal and intel before sending in the agents. |
