They're not cheap but if your worried about the wildlife, throw out some cooked animal fat if there's no fruits left, they will eat your food scraps. |

AND massive sun action. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1177651Exactly. Nice One. I really think the "lack" of activity was post the eclipsed winter solstice. Is there meaning there? NJ, I was flock of mixed birds flying in a chaotic fashion....sea gull, pigeons, sparrows, and starlings.I never seen different kinds of birds together like this before. They were also flying erratically with near midair collisions. Freaking weird. Quoting: What exit? 907535Now that is strange... If anyone sees this kind of activity, we need to upload it to GLP video. He who controls the past controls the future, and he who controls the present controls the past. -1984 |

Felt a little silly really..Now I'm getting a little spooked.. No birds..Should have seen a couple hundred here and there..NONE.. Quoting: lionheart 1214180Yeah, I am going to go on a drive in another hour. Have an appointment and will extend/deviate the travel pattern to "admire" nature. Praying I see more. Going to the little lake where the geese and the ducks mix, too. He who controls the past controls the future, and he who controls the present controls the past. -1984 |

I don't usually see them hunt so close to people. Otherwise everything seems normal. Quoting: buttonGood to hear that all is normal. Still haven't seen another bird other than the call of the magpie and the 5 pigeons that flew over head several hours ago. OP, I only have basic astrology knowledge and can't really say what the meaning is. But I do know eclipses bring massive change, and to have it on the same day as the solstice has not happened since 1638. Throw in the sun events, and it seems to me there is something big there. Anyone on here know enough about this to say how this would affect the earth and inhabitants? |

(OP) User ID: 1102003 United States 01/05/2011 05:41 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I live in Florida and have a 4th floor view of the river and a rookery where hundreds of white egrets come each night to roost and sleep and leave out every morning. Tonight I counted no more than 25 that came home, and they are deep in the mangroves instead of on the branches. This is disturbing. And what's more, a lone bald eagle was with them, and he flew away. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1177651So, what is the estimate you would normally see nesting? I know it has been colder than normal in Florida, just like the other areas of the country, would this be part of behaviour changes in Florida birds? I live in the Rocky Mtns. so I am not familiar with the southern birds and their habitats. We do have bald eagles and golden eagles, though. ;) He who controls the past controls the future, and he who controls the present controls the past. -1984 |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1218667Not much activity. Most of the birds I see this time of year are blackbirds and small brown birds and others I don't know the names of. Today was sunny and nice for Jan. Should have been many...Monday I had a tree full of the little ones. Today.None any where close..none. |

The mangroves normally at sundown look dotted with white dots as they perch on the branches to sleep. We have had very warm weather the last week or so, mid 70s, but cold before that. We also had that last year and it did not seem to affect these birds. Right now I see none, as the few who came home are deep in the mangroves. They leave at sunrise and I will monitor them again in the morning. It is not unusual to see bald eagles here, but not lone ones flying with egrets. He flew away as if he realized he was in the wrong place. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 1218704 United States 01/05/2011 06:08 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I live in Australia on the 35deg south latitude and have noticed that over the past two summers that there has been a host of tropical species roosting in the area. I have lived here for 25 years and it has only been the past two years that these tropical birds have flown in for a short duration, usually during the hottest periods over summer. Some of the birds of paradise from the New Guinea region have been noted and it has many ornithologists in a quandary as to the reasons for this migration. Maybe the solar extremes (short wavelenght UV) are excessive in the tropical regions and the birds migrate to escape these maximums. It is well known that short wavelength ultraviolet can destroy optic sensory ability and the animals may sense these damaging rays...just a theory. |

Front range of Colorado - Boulder. Second year without geese. OK, I've maybe seen several hundred. But, not thousands upon thousands covering the sky for weeks on end. Also, 5 to 6 years ago when filling up the car's gas tank, standard procedure was to clean bugs off the windshield of the car. Haven't cleaned a bug off the windshield in 5 to 6 years. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 1013442 United States 01/05/2011 08:22 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Florida here. We have very few birds. I've seen only a couple of small finches and for the first time in years I saw a pair of Cardinals last summer. They killed all our bees and birds some years ago when they sprayed Malathion all over the place. All on acount of someone found some of those Mediterranian Fruit Flies. THe money likely would have been better spent in just hiring people to pick up all the fallen fruit and burning it. Fine anyone who leaves fruit on the ground. |
