Also..notification in the mail last month that my earthquake portion of my homeowners insurance was raised for this years bill. Things that make ya go hmmmmmmmmm..................... |

Quoting: ashesand sackclothHave something large, heavy and strong in every room. Dressers, Refridgerators, Radiators, ect cleared and ready to dive next to them at a moments notice. These areas often have what is known as the triangle effect. When the building crashes down on top of you, most material will rest at an angle leaving a small space to survive until you are dug out. If you are outdoors, get off any grass or other natural soil areas. Liquifaction is a serious issue if the New Madrid lashes out with a massive earthquake. Get on pavement, on top a car, ect. Otherwise you may sink into the earth and become buried alive when the earth quake is over. Also know where the local creeks, rivers, lakes and streams are at. You need to know where a flood situation can come from and take action if you see the initial signs and act FAST. Flash floods come in much quicker then you think. Keep your car full of gas. Know where you gas shut off valve is at. Keep emergency supplies in your car, shack or garage. Any place easily reachable with little structural threat of burying your supplies. Keep important documents, ID's, Birth Certificate, SS Card in your wallet/pockets in plastic zip bags. Along with cash this can make a world of a difference in the after math. It will be a LONG time to get certificate replacements as the system will be flooded with people in the same situation. It could be months, years before you could have a vital document replaced. Know where your kids are at ALL times. Remove heavy objects that can strike you in your bed at night should an earthquake strike at night. Same with the rest of the house. Take down fine china from the cabinets on display. Take large glass pictures down. Place vases and other like objects on the floor. If you are responsible for the welfare of women and/or children, consider a firearm. But treat the firearm with as much respect as if it was the Arc of the Covenant. As much as a weapon can save you, it can invite trouble as well. And if you pull it out you BETTER be ready to fire it right into the center of the chest of the threat. There is SOOO MUCH one can do to prepare for ANY situation. Your preparedness is relative to your dedication. |
