Records taken from 1973 to present time say
6+ quakes on ave 12 per month (that is 144 per year)
7+ quakes on ave 1.2 per month(that is arond 15 per year)

Must take in to account that this data starts from 1973. We know the number of 6+ have increased in the last few years, so if you disregard the 1973 start date and start counting from 2000 then the average is much higher per year.
What we are getting now would be within the averages.

Don't forget that we were warned of this thousands of years ago in the bible. This is what the bible says like a woman in child birth the pangs become stronger and faster until the birth. Mother Nature will be doing the same thing so expect for the earthquakes and volcanoes to start coming faster and stronger to the birth of the new age.

true, but the fact that the number of high magnitude quakes increased the last few years, isn't it worrisome?, can we expect an even bigger increase in the near future?...well this is just my opinion but, i think it will happen more often and with a higher magnitude.

That is perhaps due to earth raising its vibration to a higher level thus leading to shaking of the earth initially.

Think of it as a washing machine on its last spin. As it spins the initial reaction will be shaking of the whole machine and once the vibration(speed) of the washing machine has reached a certain balanced level the shaking will indeed stop.

So, yes, we will see more shakings of the earth until such point that a vibrational higher balance is reached. At that vibration a harmony will replace the present conditions.

We are just like a washing machine that its on its last rinse and about to spin to a higher vibration.

I did my own research on the earthquake frequency. The following information is based on figures from the USGS and was accurate as of September 1, 2011. (as accurate as my math can be. lol)

U.S. Earthquakes
During the 90's there were 28,693 earthquakes of all magnitudes in the U.S. or an average of 2,869. earthquakes per year.
There were 32,114. earthquakes of all magnitudes in the U.S. from the year 2000 through 2009 or 3,211. per year.
The years 2010 through August 31, 2011 has seen 11,425 earthquakes of all magnitudes in the U.S. or an average of 2,934. (realize this is a small sampling comparatively)

What about earthquakes all over the world, have they increased?

(In 2009 the USGS stopped recording any world wide earthquake under 4.5 so the figures will not be entirely accurate)

During the 1990's there were 196,782 earthquakes of all magnitudes world wide or an average of 19,678.

The amount of world wide earthquakes of all magnitudes from 2000 through 2009 is 242,505. or an average of 24,251. per year.

The year of 2010 through August 31, 2011 has seen 36,542 above 4.5 or an average of 18,296 per year.

My personal opinion is yes, we have seen an increase in U.S. and world wide earthquakes.
I do however encourage you to do your own research and judge for yourself.

There are a couple above 6 mag in Indonesia

Good thread Bill. The non stop quaking in the South Pacific is not something that can be ignored anymore. Kept telling myself it was just aftershocks - it'll all calm down. But when I checked the earthquake map for this year on USGS - six quakes above 7+ in this area since May - is definitely different.

Can't see the shaking stopping any time soon now that we have another few months of aftershocks to go through - till the next big one???

Well we've reached 190 + 6.0 Mag. quakes, still 2 months to go till the end of the year, im pretty sure we are going to reach the 200 mark, even more. Wich will be a record in the last decades.

We have reached an impressive 200 + 6.0 Mag Eq's so far, still a month and few days left till the end of the year, this is the highest amount of + 6.0 Mag (and above)that i've ever seen!!, at least the highest of the last 20, 30 years.

Great number.. but to be fair nearly 80 are related to the Honshu Japan megaquake. Obviously that doesn't make the number any less impressive, it's just it will be interesting how many we will get in 2012 if there aren't any 8.5+ quakes and subsequent aftershocks.

That's already a new record and the year is not even over!

last record was from 1995 with 203 quakes..

Its not relevant to today, sorry i had just a notalgia moment ive been away for a long time and brought it up, Bill Paxton was an actor that died recently, he was on alot of iconic movies like, Apollo 13, Titanic, Alien, Twister and Weird Science.
