I mean..REALLY???? PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – If a proposed bill becomes law in New Jersey, bicyclists will have to pay to register bikes or face a fine. The bill, introduced by Democratic New Jersey assemblywoman Cleopatra Tucker of Essex, requires owners to register bikes with the Motor Vehicle Commission for $10 dollars a piece or face fines up to $100. The empire is scrambling for money any which way they can get it from the citizens because they are no longer getting the revenue from companies due to the economic downturn. I agree - if they want bicycle lanes, let the cyclists pay for them through license fees. Our registration fees just went up $50 in one jump, much of it targeted for bicycle paths and lanes. And for OP who thinks licenses are heinous, here in Oregon (the bicycle capitol of the world) they have introduced a bill in the legislature which would outlaw those "kiddy seats" which you see installed upon the backs of bicycles and even those little enclosed wagons in which babies/toddlers can be towed by the parents. Some townies are totally bicycle-users, so what are they supposed to do with their kids? I can just see the headlines when some poor car driver plows into a whole flock of toddlers on tricycles some night! |

If people (children and adults alike) are going to ride a bike on public roads, then they need to follow the rules of the road. There are a lot of bike riders in my town and they think they own the road. They ride in the middle of the road, they don't stop at stop sighs, they take the right away. It's only a matter of time before someone ends up dead. There should be rules for every one that uses the roads.  |
