Quoting: Chapman_BaxterGoodbye, halcyon days... There is a theory which states that if ever anyone discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable. There is another theory mentioned, which states that this has already happened. |

The police acted when reinforcements tried to join protesters gathered for several hours outside of the Interior Ministry, sending crowds fleeing from the main Bourguiba Avenue amid choking clouds of gas, AFP reporters said. User ID: 1071336 United States 01/14/2011 10:49 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Global food chain stretched to the limit Strained by rising demand and battered by bad weather, the global food supply chain is stretched to the limit, sending prices soaring and sparking concerns about a repeat of food riots last seen three years ago. Signs of the strain can be found from Australia to Argentina, Canada to Russia. On Thursday, Tunisia's president ordered prices on food staples slashed and indicated he won't run for re-election after deadly riots hit the North African country. "We are entering a danger territory," Abdolreza Abbassian, chief economist at the U.N.'s Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), said last week. The U.N.'s fear is that the latest run-up in food prices could spark a repeat of the deadly food riots that broke out in 2008 in Haiti, Kenya and Somalia. That price spike was relatively short-lived. But Abbassian said the latest surge in food stuffs may be more sustained. "Situations have changed. The supply/demand structures have changed,” Abbassian told the Australian Broadcasting Corp. last week. "Certainly the kind of weather developments we have seen makes us worry a little bit more that it may last much, much longer. Are we prepared for it? Really this is the question." Some people have a keen eye and zero tolerance to this type thing. Also they can't afford to be passive and understand what depopulation means. Africa has seen this time and time again and have even sued Kissinger for engineering these type thing. |

E.g. there is a huge refinery in hamburg which is no longer economic due to OVER capacities. They are trying desperately to find a buyer for it. Funny we do not see lower prices at the gas stations. |

This is happening globally and it would seem to me governments could put plans into place to stockpile, conserve, plant more crops...but they aren't. Here in the U.S. there was a program. Each state had silos of grain, etc. Those silos were emptied over a year ago. The Government has been stock piling food but it is not where each state in need can access it. The weather and GM (genetically modified) seed failures world wide, forest fires, flooding, historical temps of heat and cold... These are all creating a serious problem. It will not be only third world nations suffering in my opinion. "Man was also in the beginning with God. Intelligence, or the light of truth, was not created or made, neither indeed can be. User ID: 1071336 United States 01/14/2011 11:03 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Tunisia!< never heard of it Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1229791Tunisia is the northernmost country in Africa. It is a Maghreb country and is bordered by Algeria to the west, Libya to the southeast, and the Mediterranean Sea to the north and east. Its area is almost 165,000 km², with an estimated population of just over 10.3 million. Its name is derived from the capital Tunis located in the north-east. Tunisia is the smallest of the nations situated along the Atlas mountain range. The south of the country is composed of the Sahara desert, with much of the remainder consisting of particularly fertile soil and 1,300 km of coastline. Both played a prominent role in ancient times, first with the famous Phoenician city of Carthage, then as the Africa Province which was known as the "bread basket" of the Roman Empire. Later, Tunisia was occupied by Vandals during the 5th century AD, Byzantines in the 6th century, and Arabs in the 8th century. Under the Ottoman Empire, Tunisia was known as "Regency of Tunis". It passed under French protectorate in 1881. After obtaining independence in 1956, the country took the official name of the "Kingdom of Tunisia" at the end of the reign of Lamine Bey and the Husainid Dynasty. With the proclamation of the Tunisian republic on July 25, 1957, the nationalist leader Habib Bourguiba became its first president and led the modernization of the country. Today Tunisia has an authoritarian regime. It is an export-oriented country, in the process of liberalizing and privatizing its economy but has rife corruption benefiting the president's family. The country operates as a nominal republic under the leadership of President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali who has governed since 1987. The Tunisian economy has averaged 5% GDP growth since the early 1990s.[7] A popular revolution is currently underway. Tunisia has close relations with both the European Union — with whom it has an association agreement — and the Arab world. Tunisia is also a member of the Arab League and the African Union. Tunisia has built favourable relations with the European Union, and with France in particular, through economic cooperation, industry modernization, and privatisation programs. The government's moderate and even-handed approach to the Israel-Palestine conflict has also made it an important intermediary in Middle Eastern diplomacy.[8][9 Last Edited by fairflight on 01/14/2011 11:04 AM "Man was also in the beginning with God.
