Re: Revolution in Tunisia!
You can't compare it to other countries because of the dictatorial rule there and crackdowns on everything, but it is pretty spectacular that the guy lost his nerve and fled, IMHO. In a way, it makes it even more newsworthy because of the aforesaid, but it's a tiny country. However, according to news in Germany, same things have been going on to somewhat lesser extent in Algeria, and that would be big. I am just posting this because I thought days ago, when Helmut from GLP posted this, that it was common knowledge as it was in German MSM, but a lot of people in the US didn't know about it. So mea culpa if it's redundant.

Re: Revolution in Tunisia!
CIA is behind this coup, this is how the U.S. economy grows. In a few months Tunisia will be flooded with American products, thus creating American jobs and putting more $$$ in the pockets of TPTB. Tunisians will become Westernized just like every other country that has fallen to these tactics.

Re: Revolution in Tunisia!
There is a real Revolution in Tunisia!

 Quoting: Muhajiir

Montesquieu proved that the principle of monarchy is honor, the principle of despotism fear, the principle of a republic virtue or patriotism, and he added with much justice that governments decline and fall as often by carrying their principle to excess, as by neglecting it altogether.

The Tunisian dictator, who has certainly failed to read the works of the master to think in political institutions and constitutional law, is likely to pay a dear price of what Montesquieu described in 1750 that a frequent use of fear can only remove and destroy the effectiveness of the political regime which was guided by it.

Re: Revolution in Tunisia!
What the hell do we care? These fucking people aren't revolting against the debt or spending. They're revolting against economic reform that would take away their entitlement programs. They're goddamn communists, not 'freedom fighters' revolting against the banks. Fuck them. Let them live the shit life they so desperately want.

You people need to start actually comprehending the actual things these people are protesting just like in the U.K. and Rome. Those kids weren't pissed off at the spending or debt, they were protesting the tuition entitlement reform. They were hanging up communist flags in some of the squares in Rome for god's sake!

We should be worried about ourselves and how people would react here if the U.S. if we did something similar to welfare. We should be mourning the fact that if there is some big world political upheaval by the 'people' it will be toward communism or fascism. Not less government.

Tunisia's population is actually very secular. Not much room for fundamentalists in government.

Let's hope it stays that way.

Calm down, he was a dictator but also prevented the islamists.

Remember the dark years of algeria ? When the islamists beheaded women, kids and everybody like an assembly worker putting together a Peugeot car ?

He developped tourism. Tunisia is not bad off. The dictator missed it to open the country and to make place for opposition parties within a stable tunesian framework. He is in France now. He is gone.

The prices of food and basic stuff are heading up all over the place. It is not just Tunesie whose people are suffering.

France is going to help keep the price explosion under control within its framework of the mediterreanan union.

Now the need is to calm down and let democracy install and play out.

Most of the opposition leaders in Tunesie were born in France.

Now we need calm to get a democratic process going and help to prevent the leftovers of the old regime not to take advantage of the situation.

Re: Revolution in Tunisia!
Yes, they are leftovers from France or born in France or have connections to France, it doesn't matter. What is happening there right NOW is something very powerful that no one who has not lived under or visited a dictatorship cannot appreciate, and for that reason it is huge. These people have been threatened, abused, shot at and, at last count up to 50, killed, and they're still going despite the massive police and military crackdown. That has to tell you something, right?
Because they used to be French is supposed to mean anything? The ones rioting are mostly young and have no memory or connection to the past, that's why it has gotten so far.
