Like the guy mention in your link in the comments section, I have to agree with him. It's not instructing people to applaud... it's captioning for the hearing impaired and therefore says applause... not applaud.
Was the thing programmed beforehand to say 'applause' or is this some kind of magic applause recognition software at work.
