Pretend you're going to feed it, it'll come a-running.

I did, I did, got the food bowl and shook it. Ran the water in the sink, works EVERY time. No kitty.

Bags or cans of kitty treats? shake the kitty treat bag or kitty treat can?...

get tuna or canned wet catfood and place tiny plates of it all over the house. She's bound to smell one of those plates...

If it wasn't so small an area in here, I would try that. He just isn't here. Going for the auto pilot in my mind theory now.

It would be better if she just took a tuna and thwaped it against the walls and really rubbed it in.

Do you know or have any other cats?

I don't have any cats, but he has a herd/harem following him around. The others won't come in though. They are truly feral.

Perhaps he is an early warning earthquake detector. Or perhaps he took his harem out for a stroll but forgot the keys and had to dart in and out again.

I have a cat here that I adopted from her feral state, one time she wedged herself under the stove and I could not find her anywhere. Same situation, studio apartment, but yours is even smaller than mine! Mine is 400 sq. ft.

Anyway it was hours before I realized where she was and hours before she came out. She was truly traumatized by the vacuum cleaner that day. Glad she has progressed so far since then. I still can't touch her but other than that she doesn't get too freaked out by much anymore. Hasn't hissed at me in a very long time! :-)

She didn't meow or anything? He meows so much, it's irritating, because I am not to have pets here.

I don't know what would have scared him. He wanted in, meowed to come in and then disappeared. Nothing was running in here except for the pc.

So glad you found that kitty safe and so nice of you to adopt.

It was probably a spirit. They can manifest themselves physically and in animal form.

You have no idea of how many times I have thought of this, previous to my post here. That kitty was odd. Showed up at an odd time in my life, found me after I moved and had a harem of kitties with him. A male and a stray, being the caregiver of at least four other cats struck me as very odd.

I once had a cat my favorite who I adopted while stationed in England and brought back to the states and then back to England when reassigned. She was devoted to me and it broke my heart when she developed an aggressive form of cancer and eventually had to be put to sleep because the cancer riddled her body.

My husband heard along with myself movement in the closet and he too realized it was Molley and I realized that I had to let her go for both our sakes.

Have you had a cat in your past that you lost and are clinging to perhaps a bit too strongly?

You are right on the money there. I lost her almost exactly seven years ago. (On Superbowl Sunday 2004) She also developed an aggressive form of cancer called Vaccine Associated Feline Sarcoma.

This is the first kitty I have been around since then due to lease restrictions in apartments. However, this kitty kind of forced himself on me.

Still cannot find him but this has given me the chance to repair that cover under the love seat.
 Quoting: Rock Soup

My husband and I were working different shifts and one afternoon as I was about to leave my husband called and asked if I was leaving work. I said yes as was called back delayed only due to his telephone call and he stated that my cat suddenly ran to wait at the door.

The cat was always by the door waiting for me when I returned and it was beyond difficult to let her go and when she was out to sleep she leaped up and jumped on me and that is where she died. The veterinarian and technician cried along with us and for months, I cried daily and even now I still miss, her thus letting go was difficult for me.

However, both you and the cat must move on and I can empathize with you, as many people cannot understand the link that can be forged. My cat was a coffee drinking critter such as myself and loved pistachios and maple walnut ice cream as much as I did.

Is there anything else going on in your life that warrants the visit of this special kitty as it seems to me you need the guidance.

If the door was noisy when you opened/shut it, maybe it did run out. Cats can be REAL sensitive to sound.

On the other hand... cats are amazing at how they find places to hide. You might search the same place 100 times and not notice the cat is right there, under a cover or something [ie: under the bed covers, flat enough to fool you that your bed is flat with no cat there].

Does seem confounding though as usually the cat is hungry when it comes in, right? And making its OWN noise about it...

Is there anything around near the door the cat would have been fascinated with as you fiddled with the door [and entered?... a hole in the wall that cant be seen easily?]

Well, good luck! Hope you find the cat soon.

That story gave me chills and goosebumps. So sorry about the kitty. I know how you feel, that bond, it's hard. My departure with the kitty I lost seven years ago was pretty messed up.

I hadn't really thought about that kitty much until this one showed up and reminded me of her. Too much drama going on and been going on since that loss seven years ago.

However, things have gotten even more dramatic as of late, if that's even possible. It's hard for me to get into that, but if this kitty doesn't show up later tonight, I am going to wonder.

So a big YES to your last paragraph. It would be hard to write about and it is extremely dramatic.

Thanks for the good wishes. Door is completely quiet and such a routine to open it because of the cold weather outside. I guess he must of slipped back out while I was opening it, but it had to be split second because I didn't see it happen. No holes in the wall, love seat is sitting on it's side until I get that fabric pinned back up. It's just plain weird, but again, I could be on auto pilot.

Once when I was a kid, my family was out on a boat on the river with another family, it was their boat.

Suddenly the mother of the other family realized she didn't know where her young daughter was. She started calling and frantically searching. We went back to the sand bar where we had recently gotten out to walk on it and wade. All the while the mother is searching the (not huge by a long shot) boat, trying to find her daughter, she's in tears, frantic.

This went on for maybe ten minutes? Longer than you could ever think, on a boat, not a big boat, just a family motorboat with a small cabin, beds.

Then she found the little girl, sleeping on the bed behind an open suitcase, the top was up and the little girl hidden behind. Poor mom. Kid was fine, but oh what a scare!

When you find the cat I have two items I have been looking for during the past two years. One a set of car keys that I drove home with.??? Second my favorite necklace. I have literally dismantled the house. No keys, no necklace. Weird. I went to the gym and drove home. No purse. So exactly where are the car keys? I had to have another set made and it cost me $85.00. Help me and I will find the cat. Promise.

Wow, that is wild. I consulted a pet psychic as well after I lost my kitty back in 2004. She had no prior knowledge either and told me she was back on the farm (where she was born, but psychic didn't know that) and wanted me to stop crying, she loved me and she was happy. However, I asked her specifically what kitty was spooked about after being in the same home for several years. She said there was a dark presence in the home and identified where it was. Again, no prior knowledge.

Chills and goosebumps. She was sooooo right and I had no idea how much worse things would become.

I really cannot discuss what is going on on an open forum unless I get my nerve up. It is dark, let me say that. Very dark along with some heartfelt issues that have been going on for this seven years, maybe more as well. There is no let up and from all signs it is about to get much worse. I am amazed at what you have picked up so far.

BTW, if you have a sofa check for holes under it or in the back.
Mine loves to get inside it.

That was the second place I looked. The loveseat. Lifted it up, shook it, all that, no kitty.

And it's not like I am really worried about the cat, it is a stray, whether he's here or not, no commitment, on either part. He seems to like his stray life and we area not allowed pets anyway.

My dog does that. He will just up & disappear. I'll look all over for him, calling & shaking the doggie treat bag.

Later, he will crawl out of a spot that I checked several times.

I figure he went to HQ to report something. (Cats & Dogs) I haven't figured out if he's working for the Russians or the Americans yet.

Re: OMG, I let the cat in and I cannot find it.!!!!!

HQ, cute idea.
All truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed.
Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self-evident.

Pretend you're going to feed it, it'll come a-running.

I did, I did, got the food bowl and shook it. Ran the water in the sink, works EVERY time. No kitty.
