Man Lester ..... you don't have to be mud encrusted to have primitive skills?.....in my neck of the woods the hearth/drill are easily had items..the drill wood is the same the natives used for arrow shafts(black elderberry) they don't even require hardening and very little straightening?...but your right bic lighter is best friend, and you correct on the water issue( which i did not mention?) but i know where the artisan springs are in the hills ..as I'm sure you have at your bug out spot....

drug rehab?? wtf your cracking me up( projecting maybe?), how do you get that from:....research native starches, know the local woods used for primitive fire, practice practice, and they lived comfortably while doing it...it's called a "Ad Hominem fallacy"... love your gun stuff though.

Never heard of Outward Bound?

Worth having some bug dope like Ben's anytime you're out in the woods in Summer, especially up North... otherwise you might have to resort to mud encrustment.

My perspective on the Primitive Outdoor Living Skills is that they matter after you've dealt with the rest of the equation; unless you are a broke loner. Anything moving in the woods the first year of this debacle is really going to be chancing their demise. There aren't 2,000 people living within a 50mi radius from my home, but doubtful it will be "safe" in our outback for at least a year or two after collapse.

Best have the gear that makes your primitive skills just an ancillary set of capabilities; especially in the food gathering dept. Got plenty food, water you don't have to haul, IE a well or vast cistern; and have means to use solar or windpower?

Survivalism is a deliberate plan an individual enacts to remove self & family from the negative environment and effects that will affect daily life in event of economic collapse or aftermath of nuclear war etc. Living through such calamity without suffering from the effects is a realistic goal for those who've foreseen and planned. Survival on the other hand means "living through" an event you had not prepared to avoid or could not foresee. One who has adopted the Survivalist mindset and embraced survivalism will have a better likelihood of survival under any situation...

Not many people gonna "survive" using primitive living skills anywhere in America unless they live on Hawaii or South Florida. Too unlikely to depend on hunting to provide skins for clothing and shelter. Just too far-fetched to rely on, but who am I to rain on someone's parade? Wish you all the best!~
