I'm not up to date on the science of all this, but how possible would it be for these nasty little crude and methane eating bacteria to get into our oil and methane deposits? What would happen if they did? Could it cause those deposits to disappear? Could they do it without help or would they need someone to put them there?

Just some of the thoughts that go through my head when I read stuff like this about the things going on in the Gulf.

Since there are fissures and cracks in the Gulf ocean floor now, perhaps as some of the crude oil and gas is coming out and relieving the reservoir pressure, other cracks could allow the synthetic genome bacteria to enter into the reservoir. But without the needed earth elements like iron and copper these syn-bio bacteria need to multiply, that might not be able to happen... unless the earth structure surrounding the oil reservoir has its own deposits of iron and copper.
