Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1217867Same song. Different day. . ^^^ THIS ^^^ Ins Co's are in biz to collect your $$ with a promise that one day they may pay for damage...unless they are broke of course...and they are broke considering the amount of damage this storm/flood caused while there will be lawsuits filed by policy holders it will take years for those to be tried or settled...in the meantime people will be angry...some will move on...some will die...some will never file a claim having no idea what to do... that's what the Ins Co's bet on...stretch it out for as long as they can...and make interest on the $$ they already collected...and if need to they will file for bankruptcy after years of stalling pay outs . |

It's not a bad idea to rebuild Brisbane using a new tax. There were so many people on the tv without insurance so they screwed themselves. If you have Suncorp insurance you wouldn't have these problems. It's a huge ad for Suncorp. |

Blame the people and praise the new tax. People are poor from already having to pay so many bloody taxes. Maybe that's why some people failed to insure, they simply could not afford it anymore. |

Do you think the government plans to use the Flood Tax on helping people rebuild their homes? LMFAO. They will use it to rebuild the infrastructure that they don't want to spend 'their' money on, because that would cut into their champagne and caviar fund. The people rendered homeless by the floods will now become victims of the the high rent prices crisis, have to pay GST on everything they have to replace, and if their place of work was destroyed, can be now be forced to work for the dole 40 hours per week for the princely sum of $250 a week. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 1155273 United States 01/21/2011 09:45 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | If someone told me this was a plot by insurance companies and government types to get the economy moving, I wouldn't be at all surprised. The folks over at central planning think in rather simplistic terms: People aren't buying stuff! People aren't building houses! People aren't accessing credit (going further into debt)! What shall we do?? Let's throw a flood. Then the people will HAVE to buy and build. Yea Us, problem solved. What they don't seem to understand is people don't have the wherewithal to start with, even less when they loose everything. They expect you will be forced to go out and get loans one way or the other. Fools. |
Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 1174986 Singapore 01/22/2011 04:15 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Flooding is NOT in homeowners policy. Water damage due to a blown water heater or water pipe, maybe. Flooding is a totality of loss event that is very common. If flooding was to be part of every policy the annual costs would probably be in the $8000 range. Quoting: tkwasnyMaybe where you live, but in flood prone areas here, insurance can be taken out against flooding. Some people had policies which will cover them, as they had made sure they were covered for it. Others thought they had made sure they were covered, only to find out now that their insurance company is playing words games with what sort of water constitutes a flood, to avoid paying out. |

For anyone curious, they made a law that every insurer must have flood cover...then people screamed because their premiums went up by thousands. They chose a cheap option without flood insurance, and while 1 out of 10 may have genuinely not known, those types of things were required by law to be clear at the time, and still are *Glitches May Occur. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1174986 The insurance company's had began telling people affected by the floods, and who lost everything, that they probably won't get any kind of payout. The games they planned to use against the people, was to claim it was not the right kind of flood water. If you are insured against flood, then they claim you were not insured against storm damage, so it was considered to be the wrong type of water. If you are insured against storm damage, they would claim the water came from a flooded river and not a storm, so was not the right kind of water. Our illustrious leader, at the time, said she was urging the companies to payout. But since the bill is just too high, and will leave most of those insurance companies struggling, she is only willing to organise a committee to talk to them about making their flood clauses more standard and clearer, so that the same people don't get caught again next time. So, that was just about Brisbane and surrounding areas. What about all the people being affected by floods in our other states? Also, our great leader, is going to use all of this to charge us a new tax, the flood tax levy. What a great idea, make the people who have just not only lost their homes, but everything that was contained in them, pay a levy when they got nothing to help them to recover after years of paying insurance premiums. Australia needs to stand up and burn these companies to the fucking ground! Might as well take out parliament house as well, since it only houses assholes.
