When I get to my final buggin' cabin, I will have about 10,000 watts. Right now I have two 2000 watt hondas, that I can link together to make 4000W. I kinda got side tracked on gen sets, and really got into solar. It is quiet, getting smaller, but insanely expensive. Although price is starting to come down. Right now I can power my 26 foot travel trail forever with my solar set up. I need to wait until my rich uncle gets outta the poor house to do the home. Generators are a good fast way to keep things running. But if things stay bad for a long time, they won't cut it. Fishing and skiing keeps me a little sane. |

I could run the essentials off it for a while, but you're right, the gas would eventually run out. I got two guns, one for each of ya. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 1239070 United States 01/22/2011 08:44 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Think an inverter setup with car batteries and solar cells for recharge, or a proper off-grid (or grid interactive) solar setup would be the way to go if you can afford it. (just my thinking if you are considering a SHTF scenario) |

(just my thinking if you are considering a SHTF scenario) Don't use lead acid car or deep cycle batteries. Use LiFePO4 batteries like this - [link to www.evworks.com.au] They are much lighter but need a solar regulator that can be programmed to charge to a slightly higher voltage. |
