I don't understand how a heat bubble under a surface can cause a tennis ball not to bounce against that surface. WTF? Tennis ball hits object, tennis ball bounces usually.... Can someone explain how this is possible?

Exactly. What happens in this video violates so much physics it is ridiculous. It is not merely breaking the rules of 1 physics law, it is breaking many.

It was on the yahoo sports news on the german yahoo front page. They explained it with some heat bubble and actually made it like a funny report. I just found it on the english yahoo sports news, nope, that's not a hoax.

I'd just like to know what happened during the match and see footage of it. If you read the article Sharapova thought somebody tampered with her shoes at first, until she realized the ball doesn't bounce. Then the referee came to test it. I wish there was footage from during the match.

MAN THAT IS CRAZY! Is the heat bubble the real cause of that?! She throws it down at an angle as well, and the ball completely stops forward and all angular momentum, ALL the kinetic energy of the impact goes....somewhere. All of it (or damn close), not just a small portion.

I have no idea...the tennis player said she could see a bubble of some sort...it's not visible in the video. I used to play tennis and I never heard of this or ever seen this before.

I'm watching soccer now - I was thinking what if that would happen on the soccer field? What would the explanation be for that? Bubbles under the grass? LOL
