Sharapova finds dead spot - check out the video!!! What happened is that the stifling temperatures in Melbourne caused a heat bubble filled with air to form under the surface of the court. It's the same concept that causes crust bubbles to develop on edges of pizza slices. As the Mirror reported, workers came out and drilled two small holes in the court, which let out the air. Order, and gravity, was restored. Quoting: Final..FrontierThat was just the 'cover' story. You are not the only one who thinks so - look at all the men in suits sweeping in to "fix" it. |

Sharapova finds dead spot - check out the video!!! I don't think there is a good explanation, as these are violating physical laws. Quoting: SickScentI have been 'told' that we, as a human species, will begin witnessing stuff that will make it undeniable to the human race, that our reality is changing. It is fascinating for me to see these things, because it seems to resonate with so much that I have visions about, or are told by 'higher-ups'. Sorry but the tennis ball thing is not uncommon on those courts. The court is made of thick rubber with a gritty surface so it is made to absorb more energy- when the small air bubble forms underneath it acts like a rubber shock absorber- the tennis ball because of design also adsorbs the energy. If the air bubble under the court was bigger and the rubber was taunt, the tennis ball would bounce off- it was just loose enough to make a dead spot. Behold the magic table cloth... Your video isn't a good example IMO. Its a horrible example. The gritty surface of a tennis court is to make the ball not 'slide' as much when making contact...not to absorb energy. Look up the 3 different tennis court surfaces... Also, a tennis ball is made to bounce on the court surface. The pool ball is not made to bounce on a vinyl, synthetic coton inlayed table... Are you serious? It was just to illustrate a point about absorption of kinetic energy based on surface resistance. The court in question is in fact a rubberized hard court, not concrete or clay and the sand added to paint is to slow down game play and create friction, IE: absorb energy, but that is irrelevant. Mincing words does nothing to further your augment that the law of physics have suddenly stopped working- You can argue all you want, but the fact is that when they released the air and restored surface tension the ball bounced fine. Or did they perform a magic gravity ritual with a cordless drill that I am not aware off or did the ball lady suddenly get her hero powers? |

Exactly - the ball comes to a complete stop, as if being "absorbed" or "sucked into" the court...it should have at least moved a little bit, or roll..she threw it down hard and at an angle. |

Sharapova finds dead spot - check out the video!!! I am saying that the explanation given does not support what happened. FFS, throw a ball on a 'bubble', and see what happens. Holy shit, it rolls! It was not a bubble per say, because it did not have enough air pressure to create any surface tension. It was a small pocket of air trapped between the dirt and the floor- thus creating a spot where the rubber was loose enough where it could absorb all the energy. |

Sharapova finds dead spot - check out the video!!! Look, this is for people like magnus, I understand that it DID happen. I am saying that the official statement as to how it happened, IMO, doesn't add up. Whether they are missing some of the physics of it, and just sent something out for release without all the information, or whatever, it doesn't make their statement completely valid. So, instead of merely taking their word for it, try and look into the exact cause of why it did behave so strangely. That is why I sent it to Mythbusters for one. I know it is a tv show, but it is fun to watch, and if they decide to bust it, it would be very interesting to see what they come up with. When I read something that doesn't quite make sense, I like to investigate it, and see where either the errors are, or what the missing information is. I don't know why some of you guys bash that inquisitive nature. Rather, you hang on every word that somebody wrote down, whether it makes complete sense or not. |
