Anonymous Coward User ID: 1212835 Canada 01/24/2011 08:04 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Poor guy had to use a screwdriver and hammer to try and get all the ice off his car and broke a window while doing that. Quoting: BabsiYou guys really have to look at this!! I live in far eastern Canada, and most people here are no better at dealing with cold than New Yorkers from Manhattan...maybe even worse, to be honest. It's actually surprising to me, given the fact that it's Canada, and you'd think they'd be prepared, but they aren't. I spent a long time in New Hampshire and upstate NY near Corning and then Albany, so I know what rough weather is like. Buffalo shrugs off 3 feet of snow and keeps going. However, around here life shuts down with a few inches of snow, forget ice. And you're right, you can't generalize about any single place. That said, generally speaking, weather in Manhattan is quite mild and the residents there aren't used to sub zero temps. I could see where they could get flustered...and nerves in that city are already stretched kinda thin. The last time my car was glazed over, I carefully doused it with warm water (not hot!) and after I could finally get the door open, I started the engine and left it running for 30 mins before I ventured outside to crack the ice again It sucks...I'm headed to Florida next week...yee haw! |

And I've never seen anything like this before - have you? Sure sucked for the guy... Quoting: Babsi[link to news.yahoo.com] The idiot deserved what he got for parking next to that crater of a pothole. Gee....it's 10F or less outside....let me park RIGHT NEXT TO THIS MASSIVE WATER HOLE while trucks and cars splash it all over my new AUDI for 24 hours. DUH!!! Well..as I said in my previous post, lesson learned. But this guy probably didn't think about it all, and then the temps are quite unusual for NY, aren't they? He just didn't think about it at all. He won't make that mistake again, that's for sure. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1181888Yes, that's what I understood too...but sucks, how come just that one car and how come it's covered top to bottom in ice??? someone took a hose to his car That's what I thought at first too...maybe somebody was pissed he parked there. But it was just cars splashing water as they drove by, and with the current temps, that's what happened... |

Sugarplums and fairies? I lived on the east coast all of my life minus the last 5. I'm sorry you did not find humor in what I said but hey the broken window metal hammer and metal chisel made me laugh. Yes I know it's NYC I've been there and I understand the mentality it still does not take away how funny that part of the video was. Also what is with hiding behind proxies? Are people not proud of the country they are from? |

Lighten up a bit eh? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1237191Also when you post on a public forum asking people for their opinion what did you expect? Sugarplums and fairies? Yes I know it's NYC I've been there and I understand the mentality it still does not take away how funny that part of the video was. Also what is with hiding behind proxies? Are people not proud of the country they are from? You were not funny imo, maybe it came across wrong? Read again what you wrote. However, I don't hold grudges, so no worries then....and yes I see the humor in it too. I'm also not hiding behind a proxy - you came across as attacking me why someone from Egypt would be talking about de-icing a car. And you misunderstood, I am not from Egypt, I was born and raised in Bavaria, and I lived in other countries before too. I am proud I am german, so I wouldn't hide that flag, lol. I would prefer to have a german flag rather than the flag of the country I am currently residing in to avoid some of the attacks I've been getting lately. If I ever move to another country like Iraq I think I'd have to hide my flag in here to avoid some of the comments. People need to stop assuming when they see a flag, that the person actually is from that country. Maybe you are not even Canadian either? How would I know? And do you know how many canadians I know that live in Cairo? Lots....just like Americans, British, Danish, Dutch.... All of these nationalities could be posting under an egyptian flag just cuz they work/live here. So never fair to use a country flag as a joke or comment to put somebody's comments down. That's just regular etiquette when you deal with people - sometimes that's just the problem - behind a computer, people forget they deal with real people on the other end. I doubt you would've said those things to my face if you were in front of me in person. ;) And if you did, with a smile and laughing, I would've gotten the joke. So maybe add some smiles next time and then I'll get it. |

Quoting: BabsiYou guys really have to look at this!! Ya, he's a fucking douchebag. Using a Chisel?? I've had this happen to my car when parked at the airport after 2 weeks in the winter. 3 or 4 inches thick.. start the car, allow it to warm up for at least 15-20 minutes, then hammer with your FIST not a fucking metal chisel.. My god some people are dumb. You are Canadian, so this is not unusual for you and you know what to do. For other people this is a bizarre and unusual occurrence. I have photos of my car parked outside my house with a 6inch layer of ice all over it and freezing it in place from the 1998 ice storm. |
