Take the Mayan 2012 calender doom thing, Who would you rather operated on you, a Mayan Witch doctor or a top surgeon?
What is this "Ancients know the truth" thing all about?
 Quoting: Richard Eldritch

Why wouldn't you believe they had? Clearly they (the Mayans) had some impressive astronomical wisdom that we've only caught up with in the last century. The natives of South America developed incredible pharmacological tech in pyschodelics. The Hebrew Kabbalah provides a perfect map of the solar system. It's simply the hubris of modern science that rejects this wisdom.
 Quoting: Thelemic Messiah

Well thats rubbish isn't it? to compare a few star gazers to scientist with space telescopes is absurd.
 Quoting: Richard Eldritch

Why those stargazers had an understanding of astronomy that simply did not exist in Western Culture until the later part of the 20th century.

You are wildly incorrect in your basic premise, Richard. A sorcerer should know better.
 Quoting: Thelemic Messiah

Oh Nonsense! They could oserve a few planets (not that they understood what a planet was of course) and some stars? hardly a theory of orbital mechanics is it?

What if the ancient shamans held ceremonies and used certain herbs that allowed them to contact God(s).

& What if monothiests killed them & made the herbs illegal to control the cultures, steal wealth and take slaves.

& the seeking the answers to these questions can be the journey of a lifetime.

They definitely knew how to live longer and avoid disease, didn't they? Some of my ancestors lived a long time and they didn't die from diseases such as: diabetes; high blood pressure; heart disease; cancers, etc., they died from "natural" cause: old age.

The new stats are out on American longevity: it's DOWN. So much for modern "wisdom".

Re: Why would you believe that the Primitive savages had any wisdom?
firstly Yep I agree.

Why would people believe this, well maybe there is an anti scientist/scientific vain in society???? don't know really. Suppose kind of linked to religeon. Religon may prime people to beliefs conserning ancient texts etc.

As a scientist I consider them to be ignorant fuckwits. Still science and scientists relies on all these fuckwits working and doing stuff etc to enable a small numnber to actually do some proper thinking.

So as a scientist I'd like to say thank you fuckwits for doing loads of stuff for me so I can do your thinking for you. Enjoy the fruits of the intellectuals produce (as in internet, xbox, medicine etc

Kind of like how pacifists can only really be pacifist in a society that has gun toting arsehole's to protect it. Pacifist=bitch

Firstly bullshit, maybe very recently but 1000 years ago life span was defo much shorter. As regards all this disease non-sense, in the past cause of death was not categorised. So cancer is not a knew thing its just we know what it is now

Primitive savages? Looks like the Church succeeded in destroying the true history so people wouldn't feel bad about the wholesale destruction of an advanced society and their LIBRARIES of SCIENCE. Good work Christards.

I know this thread will whither into just another foppish exercise in meaninglessness, however I inclined to add one factoid so it doesn't degrade into pure folly.

I have seen examples of obsidian scalpels recovered from digs at both Tikal and Palenque that were assessed to be sharper and more refined that the best, modern surgical steel available today, and this of course after being buried for several centuries.

How this degree of sharpness was achieved baffles modern researchers.

Not at all. We've been to the moon peered deep into the cosmos, our understanding of nature is acute; hence the advances in Biology, physics, chemestry etc. We're the most knowlegeable culture there has ever been by an immence margin.

You overrate todays crude methods which are unable to achieve the high level of civilization without spreading filth to all parts of the environment. The water, and land, and the very air we breathe is poisonous because of the crude methods used by people today. What pigs modern men are. The ancients achieved their high civilizations without turning the planet into an open sewer.

Smart is not wise. Wisdom is what is in short supply and so because it relies on truth as foundation.

I see little in the modern world to match the wisdom in the dialectic of Seven Generations.

Re: Why would you believe that the Primitive savages had any wisdom?
you get my drift though,People seem to believe that in someway these ancient tribes knew things that we don't. I don't doubt they thought they knew but really they were ignorant.
 Quoting: Richard Eldritch

They could do things that we still probably can't do today in the sense of architecture. Like the stone walls at Machu-Picchu. How were the walls built?
