I would rather Quincy operated on me. But I suppose he is a bit ancient, and I'd have to be dead, so no.
 Quoting: about:blank

Quincy? Wasn't he a pathologist that worked in the coroner's office? If you are lying on Quincy's table, then you are bad shape.

Re: Why would you believe that the Primitive savages had any wisdom?
Smart is not wise. Wisdom is what is in short supply and so because it relies on truth as foundation.

I see little in the modern world to match the wisdom in the dialectic of Seven Generations.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1216837

thats not wisdom but a philisophical objective. Given todays population so called crude science will be needed to achieve this.

I agree through sustainability is important regardless of what climate change scienctist you listen to

you get my drift though,People seem to believe that in someway these ancient tribes knew things that we don't. I don't doubt they thought they knew but really they were ignorant.
 Quoting: Richard Eldritch

They could do things that we still probably can't do today in the sense of architecture. Like the stone walls at Machu-Picchu. How were the walls built?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 693969

We have mobile cranes that can lift thousand or so tons. We can acomplish wonders the old world could not even dream of.

Channel tunnel?
Twin towers sky scrappers.

We have moved beyond stone, but could still do that stuff now. I'm not saying that old engineering is not amazing though. To have built some of the worlds wonders with nothing more than stone, wood, rope and people is nothing short of astounding. Again primitive technologically but sophisticated engineering and undertanding of maths and more importantly the newtonian lever (before newton though)

Primitive savages? Looks like the Church succeeded in destroying the true history so people wouldn't feel bad about the wholesale destruction of an advanced society and their LIBRARIES of SCIENCE. Good work Christards.

And to add... The Mayans had calculated how long it took the earth to go around the sun well before anyone in Europe had.

The knowledge of the ancients has been covered up by the current group of goons trying to enslave us.

Look you dope that isn't the point (or true see stonehenge and the celtic culture) We KNOW far far more than they ever did about nature and science so why do people insist on basing there knowledge on what some old savages believed.
 Quoting: Richard Eldritch

You think we know more but if we aren't sure what they knew, you can't really make that statement.

They knew how long it took the earth to go around the sun far before western culture/science. In Europe, they still thought the world was flat.

They definitely knew how to live longer and avoid disease, didn't they? Some of my ancestors lived a long time and they didn't die from diseases such as: diabetes; high blood pressure; heart disease; cancers, etc., they died from "natural" cause: old age.

The new stats are out on American longevity: it's DOWN. So much for modern "wisdom".
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1177209

Firstly bullshit, maybe very recently but 1000 years ago life span was defo much shorter. As regards all this disease non-sense, in the past cause of death was not categorised. So cancer is not a knew thing its just we know what it is now
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1121231

You don't know shit. And keep the shit in your rear-end where it belongs; never makes for good conversation when it's spilling out of the mouth. Toothless shits--I mean brits--THINK they know everything don't they? MANY of MY ancestors (contrary to your lived-short genetically inferior counterparts) lived a damned long time. And NONE of them who lived over 120 years died from any disease (unlike YOURS). Let's hope you follow in your ancestors' footsteps.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1177209

Wow you are a dick. What I find offensive about your post is that for even a fraction of second you think I give a shit about you or your bullshit. You are nothing to me.

As for your claims of knowledge of cause of death for 120 year old ancestors well its clearly shit. In the past cause of death was never really determined for many cases.

That said some families are really long lived. People around Osaka and some places in Italy where there is a long life mutation last for ages and do Yoga on the beach in their ninetees.

Regarding your claims of superiority etc I would assume you are some, well, dick for want of a better word and I hope you enjoy your Ignorance. Oh before I forget a national stereotype you fat bastard! you fat bastard! who ate all the pie's.

Without reading all the posts, and to answer your original question, the unfamiliar and exotic seem to hold mystical power in people's eyes. It's the same reason westerners will buy some strange herb concoction off an old Chinese man or believe that all native americans (red indians to you, Dickie) lived in complete peaceful harmony and had an idyllic existance. Maybe some of the Asian herbs are good. Maybe some Indians led an ideal existance.
But familiarity breeds contempt, so we want to think there is something better than what is before us. I suppose it is a human weakness to think in absolutes.

A little bit of a ramble and hastily written.

 Quoting: Richard Eldritch

How did they build them? Where did they get the man power? The motivation? The reasoning? What was the purpose of the stonework? How long did it take? Where did they get the resources? How did they transfer them? Who did the designs/architecture? Why is the architecture perfect? Why is there not similar perfect architecture built by similar means now? Why does the stonework correlate with astronomical cycles? What is the connection between astronomy and the stonework? Why do you consider yourself smarter, but have no clue about any of this?

That's the easy part, my friend, quit fooling yourself, you'll feel much better when you give in to those impulses telling you you don't know anything.

Because if you fail to do that after the transition, then there will be virtually no chance for you.

humans are a virus to this planet. We are savages and primitive. When we pass ( if we pass ) being more then a speck of dust on the history of earth.. then and only then could you lay clam to the human virus not being a primitive waste of earth resources..
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1145727

The current humans are definitely too stupid to live harmoniously with the nature they love and are a part of.

So where did the primitive ones of the past make the same mistake? You think because they're not here they failed?

There is not one bit of difference between the brain capacity of humans during the time of the Mayans and us.
We both also seem to suffer from the same level of arrogance.

They in predicting events thousands of years in the future, and we in thinking that we would see it coming now with our evolved intelligence.

A few thousands of years is nothing in human evolution.

What if the ancient shamans held ceremonies and used certain herbs that allowed them to contact God(s).

& What if monothiests killed them & made the herbs illegal to control the cultures, steal wealth and take slaves.

What if these savages had entertainment, which was more like exercise compared to today?

What if the entertainment of today was more like moral degradation?

What if the "load" is determined by it's sustenance, and the information regarded here is actually a pathway to higher and more stable consciousness and harmony with the universe?

firstly Yep I agree.

Why would people believe this, well maybe there is an anti scientist/scientific vain in society???? don't know really. Suppose kind of linked to religeon. Religon may prime people to beliefs conserning ancient texts etc.

As a scientist I consider them to be ignorant fuckwits. Still science and scientists relies on all these fuckwits working and doing stuff etc to enable a small numnber to actually do some proper thinking.

So as a scientist I'd like to say thank you fuckwits for doing loads of stuff for me so I can do your thinking for you. Enjoy the fruits of the intellectuals produce (as in internet, xbox, medicine etc

Kind of like how pacifists can only really be pacifist in a society that has gun toting arsehole's to protect it. Pacifist=bitch
