Judge Roll Targetted in Tucson Shooting
"For a moment, U.S. District Judge John M. Roll seemed as likely the main target of the Tucson massacre as Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords. In 2009, Roll had come under threats severe enough that he and his family were placed under 24-hour protection by the U.S. Marshals Service. After he ruled that a high-profile suit brought by a group of Mexican immigrants could proceed, his phone lines were deluged with angry callers — including at least four that threatened violence."

[link to www.time.com]

I've come to the conclusion that judge Roll was one of the primary targets in the shooting, he was not simply an innocent bystander. This is just one example of evidence that suggests this. If Roll was one of the targets then the Loughner lone nut theory is in serious question. Why should Loughner wish to target a federal judge? Was he obsessed with the judge, as we're led to believe he was obsessed with Giffords? Why?

First thought that came to me on the very day it happened.. notice he is the one least talked about.. He lost his life.
Did 0bama bring him up last night??? A moment/30 seconds of silence in memory would have been a nice gesture.

One reason judge Roll might have been killed:

"Judge Roll was just such a fine and ethical and impartial judge. He was everything you'd want a judge to be."

Ruling by judge Roll:

"In Arizona, U.S. District Court Judge John Roll has become the third federal judge to agree that part of the Brady Law violates the Tenth Amendment The Tenth Amendment to the U.S.

Judge Roll's opinion does not knock out the waiting period for handgun purchases, but it does strike at the very concept of the federal government requiring local law enforcement officers to conduct background checks."

Roll and other judges overwhelmed by deluge of defendants produced by rising police state:

"Arizona Daily Star, January 5, 2011

Chief judge John M. Roll wants permission to delay bringing felons to trial.

“The addition of what sometimes seems to be an inexhaustible number of law enforcement agents and federal prosecutors in Tucson division has now produced a tsunami of federal felony cases far beyond the management capacity of the four active district judges in Tucson division,” Roll says in Nov. 24, letter to U.S. Court of Appeals Judge Alex Kozinski."

Re: Judge Roll Targetted in Tucson Shooting
"On the day he died, Judge John Roll was waiting to speak with Rep. Gabrielle Giffords about getting an additional judge added to the 9th Circuit Court in Arizona. Giffords had been trying to help Roll deal with the massive backlog facing the state's federal courts. Roll's death will only worsen the judicial log jam as Arizona grapples with increased drug and human-trafficking cases stemming from its new immigration law. Just nine federal judges — three fewer than the state is supposed to have and four less than Roll would've liked — will have to tackle the growing caseload."

"The Senate has confirmed only 60 of President Barack Obama's circuit and district court nominees in the past two years. That's compared to the 100 of George W. Bush's and 127 of Bill Clinton's nominees confirmed during the same period. Of the 875 federal judgeships in the country, 101 benches are empty. Forty-nine districts in 16 states have declared judicial emergencies, which allow federal judges to ignore, at least temporarily, the right to a speedy trial. "The situation is unprecedented," Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Patrick Leahy said Thursday."

"But the incident has really magnified the situation confronting the court system and Roll’s successor has declared a judicial emergency.

With a burgeoning caseload and too few federal judges, Roll himself had called for an emergency declaration on November 24, 2010. Judge Roslyn Silver has now picked up where Roll left off and made the declaration with the support of the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, allowing courts to delay criminal trials up to six months. Without such a declaration, a defendant must be brought to court within 30 days."

Re: Judge Roll Targetted in Tucson Shooting
Roll was in the midst of a huge financial and criminal shitstorm:

"In fiscal 2010 the District of Arizona saw a 21 percent increase in case filings. Much of that is due to Operation Streamline, a U.S. Department of Homeland Security initiative to prosecute undocumented immigrants caught trying to cross the border.

Tucson has the largest and most porous section of the U.S.-Mexico border. Last year Border Patrol apprehended more than 200,000 people and seized more than 1 million pounds of marijuana."

[link to www.tucsonsentinel.com]

Frankly it's a miracle more judges haven't been executed. And "ranchers" want to dump even more fuel on this fire:

"Ranchers asking for more border security"

[link to www.trivalleycentral.com]

"Security" is of course a euphemism for more police and soldiers.

"Updated 1/6/2011 12:13 AM

The mother of the U.S. Border Patrol agent who was killed in a shootout near Nogales, Ariz., three weeks ago says she and her family are growing frustrated waiting for details of why or how her son lost his life.

'We don't really know anything yet,' said Josephine Terry, from her home in Flat Rock, Mich.

Brian A. Terry, a 40-year-old member of the U.S. Border Patrol's elite tactical squad known as BORTAC, was gunned down Dec. 14, when his unit confronted suspected bandits in an isolated canyon about 13 miles north of the Mexican border."

[link to www.usatoday.com]

"2011-01-23 14:48:27

Soldiers on patrol Friday found a camp of armed men, who opened fire on them in the state of Tamaulipas, which borders the United States, according to a statement of Mexico's Defense Department.

In the clash, the soldiers killed 10 suspects and seized a rocket launcher, some 20 grenades, two grenade launchers and 24 rifles, the statement said."

[link to english.cri.cn]

Shootouts between "bandits" and US border patrol, then the next month a shootout between heavily armed "suspected drug traffickers" and mexican soldiers. Very peculiar. It'd be naive to think there wasn't some connection.

Is Roll a POW in Arizona's war with the White House?

"Arizona sure has developed a lot of chutzpah in the last year or so. It is something that's normally seen in places like Alaska or Texas. A lot of it has to do with Governor Jan Brewer (R), and the state's Republican-lead legislature, which seems to be speeding through bills like nobodies business.

It is also something that Arizona's residents seem to be enjoying.

First, Arizona gave a giant finger to the White House when it protested against the state's sweeping immigration reform. Next, it's leadership remains steadfast in changing it's broad gun control laws (or lack thereof).

And now, Brewer hopes to boost Arizona's status in national politics by moving it's presidential primary date much sooner than when it is normally held."

Re: Judge Roll Targetted in Tucson Shooting
"'Federal court officials declared Tuesday a judicial emergency in Arizona - an action U.S. District Judge John M. Roll urged in the weeks before he was killed.

The declaration allows federal courts to delay criminal trials up to six months because of a shortage of judges - a shortage worsened, ironically, by Roll's Jan. 8 shooting death.

As Arizona's chief federal jurist, Roll had written Nov. 24 to a U.S. Court of Appeals judge, asking permission to delay bringing felons to trial. The fact that there are now more than 3,000 Border Patrol officers in the Tucson Sector created 'a tsunami of federal felony cases,' Roll wrote, 'far beyond the management capacity of the four active district judges in Tucson division.'"

[link to azstarnet.com]

Roll's declaration of emergency was sure to provoke law enforcement. It's law enforcement's job to detain people, not the courts. This is how a judge tells the police to shove it.

"St. Odilia Parish, just a few blocks away from the scene of Saturday's shootings, is the parish of the family of Christina Taylor Green, who made her First Communion at the parish last spring. She was a member of the parish children's choir.

St. Odilia Parish is in the Pima North Vicariate, a geographic area of Tucson parishes that also includes St. Thomas the Apostle Parish, the parish of Judge John Roll and his family.

Judge Roll served at St. Thomas the Apostle as a lector."

He will likely face state charges in the attack and federal murder charges for the deaths of Giffords aide Gabe Zimmerman and U.S. District Judge John Roll."

[link to www.time.com]

Still hasn't been charged with Roll's death, could it be more obvious that the legal system is being juggled to further the propaganda that Giffords was the target, not Roll.

Under federal law, the murder or attempted murder of a U.S. official, such as a judge, is only considered a federal crime if committed "while such officer or employee is engaged in or on account of the performance of official duties." In other words, if Roll simply stopped by the event to greet Giffords, who he's said to have been friendly with, or due to idle curiosity about what was happening there, his killing probably wouldn't be a federal offense

The blog you cite is dated January 9, and it's obviously wrong, in light of more contemporary reports that starkly contradict it, like the following dated today:

LaWall has said she intends to seek an indictment against Loughner for not only the federal employees killed or injured in the attack, but for the civilian victims, including those who died: Christina-Taylor Green, 9; Dorwan Stoddard, 76; Phyllis Schneck, 79; and Dorothy Morris, 76.

In a joint news release, Burke and LaWall said the statute governing Giffords’ shooting says state and local jurisdictions must suspend their prosecution until after the federal case is over."

Flunked the 'Reading Comprehension' section of your SAT's, eh Scrote?

It clearly says that Loughner can not be charged federally for Roll's death, unless it is determined that the Judge was acting in an official capacity...

The Federal Prosecutor obviously is leaning towards letting the State charge Loughner in that death, or he would have already filed charges...
