** I Didn't Know This, Did You? Great Place To Buy With Little $$**
A friend went to the Habitat for Humanity and bought a brand new stainless steel stove with the papers still hanging from it, for $150.

A deep freezer for $50.

I hear there is great things there, you just need to bring a truck to haul it home.

Most of the appliances are donated from builders and this place is open to the public.

Google to see if there is one near you, I am headed there this weekend to look for a deep freezer too.

Yes I love it there! It's like a treasure hunt. The paint is sooooper cheap. I guess they get it because it wasn't the right color mixed so was donated.....

Habitat for Humanity stores are great. Their inventory changes constantly so when we plan a project we start shopping there for things weeks/months before hand and are usually able to get most of the items needed by the time we are ready to do the project.

In other words if you go there one time to look at dish washers they many not have any or only one. Keep going back because the next week they could have a dozen on hand.

Thanks OP for posting this. What the store makes goes for a good cause.

When you buy retail you are paying for some dood a commission to have a job. Also there are storemen and others that work for department chains that need their jobs. Paying retail isn't just about making some dood like Gerry Harvey rich, it's about supporting the system which employs so many people which also pay tax to contribute to the community at large.

If Americans didn't have an obession with cheap stuff there would be more American jobs and fewer offshoring of manufacturing jobs...

On one hand Americans like cheap stuff, on the other hand they complain about the offshoring of jobs to China and India to provide them with cheap stuff.

Americans are fucked.(In the head.)

You believe in Supply Side economics where the marketing and supply is controlled by the top?

Well then, you can blame those on the top, not the bottom for what is happening.

They were in search of more PROFITS and as a consequence wages have stagnated or have been cut the past 30 years, and in order to keep playing the game, those that buy have to look for cheaper items in order to maintain a decent standard of living.

Raise wages and people will be able to afford more expensive items

That's where you're wrong, you need to support your enconomy even more to starve off recession when times are tough. Keeping retail doods employed so that they can pay into the state or federal tax coffers is more important than saving $50.

If you really can't afford a new appliance and it's an emergency then try the second hand stores. But otherwise save up for new stuff. Your economy and it's recovery is important because that's when there will be more jobs. You don't want to be unemployed all your life.

Also you can usually get a bargain out of department stores if you ask them for directions to their competitors. I saved $300 on a portable air conditioner by doing that and I would buy more stuff from there if I had the money to do so.

Wages increase as the demand for suitable employees increase. For instance if a McDonalds can hire someone with a degree for the same as what they'd pay for someone without a degree, I can guarantee they will employ the person with the degree every time.

If the wages in your chosen profession are too low for your ideal standard of living, then choose a profession where you will be paid what you want to maintain your standard of living. Not everyone can be an investment banker but if more people graduated with doctorates in economics then the salary of investment bankers will decrease with market satuation. You create the impression of there being an elite by not being competitive in their market.

You want to sit around and drink beer all day, well that's all well and good but so do the Chinese and they can do it for less money as they're surrounded by cheap stuff. The whole point of living in a capitalistic market is that you improve your job prospects as necessary. If you can't compete on price then you have to offer a superior product. In the case of employment the product in question is you.

The people at the top make their money by selling goods and services that many people want, like Microsoft. You can't really blame Microsoft because you needed to use their products because they're easy to use.

Improve yourself through study and it won't matter to you if the job market for the unskilled income earners tanks. As you'll be in a different job market.
