Looks damn fun. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 1153766 United States 01/27/2011 02:18 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | the number of cores doesn't mean much, design is what matter most in cpu architecture. if you are dumb engineer you can design a 532 core cpu that still can't match a commodore 64. the psp quad cpu clocked at its nominal speed has less processing power than the, cheap, dual core intel atom that you can find in many netbooks and other machines. number of cores is only useful to hype up and to fool mods in to pin relatively irrelevant threads. and for 'gpu'...haven't not all actual hand held consoles one? and this one powervr so don't expect much more power than a original xbox. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 1245647 United Kingdom 01/27/2011 02:23 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | This is badass. But of course the ps3 is an 8 core so this seems natural. What really raises my eyebrow is a quadcore video card. That itself is revolutionary. I can only imagine having two of those in a pc in sli mode and a new 8 core amd bulldozer at like 3.6 ghz. Throw in a 512 gigabyte solid state hdd and 16 gbs or ram and you would have some serious fuckin pc firepower. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1241467yea all that fuckin firepower to trawl glp all day... |

More cores = more efficient energy consumption, more battery life since it can shut down cores not in use. It should also be more processing efficient since all the processing tasks will not be drowned in just one core. They demoed the potential of it though, and I am impressed by the graphics. It has graphics akin first-gen X360 games. With optimization I'm sure the graphics can be even better. Last Edited by bornofmaya on 01/27/2011 02:31 PM |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 1245639 United Kingdom 01/27/2011 02:47 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | lol you are an idiot. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1035843This psp would be one of the most suffisticated handheld devices ever created. With a computing power of a small PC and an enormous graphics power. It's just a glorified Mario from 10 - 15 years ago. Stroke the buttons, screen and case all you like. Have the graphics as real as you like, but it's just another video game as seen 100 times before. Get over it! |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1153766No, but we can conclude that you can't compare 2 different brands that have different architecture. On the other hand, you can compare a quadcore ARM with a dualcore ARM, or a single core Atom with a dualcore Atom. |

(OP) User ID: 1245263 Grenada 01/27/2011 05:53 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1153766 The video is impressive for a couple of reasons. The first is that browser rendering on both machines is comparable, but the Cortex-A9 dev machine does not have a graphics processor while the Atom does. The fact the A9 almost keeps up shows you the rock-solid performance this chip has. Quoting: They (ARM) are trying to prove that their technology is getting better (in other words, almost up to par with Atom chipsets). |
