****Breaking: Gas Leak in Downtown St. Pete

ST. PETERSBURG — Fire crews evacuated buildings along Central Avenue between Second and Third streets after a gas leak was reported, authorities said.

The leak was reported at 269 Central Ave. All buildings along Central between Second and Third were evacuated.

Authorities said multiple pilot lights went out on various cooking appliances in multiple businesses on the north side of Central. Fire crews were shutting down the gas line to the building.

Central was blocked off to traffic as firefighters investigated the leaks. Gas was cut off to the buildings and windows were opened to let gas escape.

Yup, so weird ..is this normal?

I really don't know .It could be negligence, aging infrastructure or pressure from some other source.

maybe something is shifting down there..

Seems strange that multiple pilot lights going out on various cooking appliances in multiple businesses all at one time unless the flow of gas stopped, caused the pilot lights to go off then gas came back on but WHY would it go off? Strange.

If it's due to a shifting then we're all in big trouble.
