Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1246635Bush saw the end to that. That was during the stock bubble. A momentary thing. It was unbalanced for a long time before that. And Bush's debt wasn't anything like now. The conservatives can't balance it either. Rand Paul wants to eliminate the departments of education and energy completely and that is only 500B. One third. It's impossible to balance our budget and we will default in just a few years. But come on liberals and those who are brave enough to think like a liberal: What are their dream cuts? It can't be done. |

Even if you would cut education, welfare and all the so called liberal-commie stuff it wouldnt be enough to balance anything. Face it: If the US would be a company you would just call it bancrupt. In a very short time the US will have hard problems to even pay the interest on all the debt. No chance to pay back... The most probable solution: Inflation |

Budgets do not actually have to be balance, because they are imaginary. One of the biggest problems people face is that they think money is real and so they use it as an excuse not to do things. Starvation is real. People do not eat money, they eat food. So we should simply give the food that is needed to the starving. What we do instead is say that food costs money, as an excuse not to do the things we should. The same is true of any disaster relief. We do not need to send money to help the victims, we need to send people and materials. As long as you believe money is real and that columns of numbers need to add up, you will never progress. |

Quoting: Ohio DudeIf the liberals had every last congressional seat they still couldn't balance the budget. Perhaps they would eliminate the entire defense budget, that saves 600 Billion. There is still 900 Billion left to cut. Where will it come from? I say they couldn't do it. They wouldn't touch welfare, education or anything else. Can any super-commie liberal out there give me 900 Billion? I challenge you. In his state of the union teleprompter reading Obama said he would spend the us back into a balanced budget. He said he would buy some "innovation". Dat will do the trick! |

Anyway, Medicare, Medicade, SSI, and defense spending. Dig into those four and you can start to cut the deficit. Also tax code needs to be redone. More incentives for companies to come back to America. However, even then there is an issue. Even if the tax code was redone, it is still cheaper for someone to hire foreign workers than Americans. China is already starting to feel the pains of having a big economy; you can't have an economy running at +10% every year without other costs rising. They can't have their cake and eat it too. |

You could tax everyone in the entire country 100% and it wouldn't cover the deficit. This is a fact. This is how huge the problem is. I was going to flame you but then I realized your sarcasm. LOL. The several options I see are World War III (which we can't afford), we dump the USD and go with a new currency, or option 3, we collapse into a third world country. In my point of view there cant be a solution inside the system, when the system itself is the problem. Understand the reality of an exponential function and you will realize that the US dept will just grow every year fast and faster. The sooner you realize the less hard you will fall. Dont believe the polititians of every colour! Face it: They are very well paid professional lyers, they will tell you everything you want to hear, thats how they get elected. They will tell you that golden towers can grow forever, but the truth is: Golden towers wont grow forever, they collapse!!! |

[link to www.c-span.org] [Warning: PDF] In a sobering holiday interview with C-SPAN, President Obama boldly told Americans: "We are out of money." C-SPAN host Steve Scully broke from a meek Washington press corps with probing questions for the new president. SCULLY: You know the numbers, $1.7 trillion debt, a national deficit of $11 trillion. At what point do we run out of money? OBAMA: Well, we are out of money now. We are operating in deep deficits CNN: "The figure Walker cites includes future payments that government entitlement programs would have to pay, including $32 trillion owed by Medicare." [link to www.cnn.com] "Add together the unfunded liabilities from Medicare and Social Security, and it comes to $99.2 trillion over the infinite horizon." [link to www.dallasfed.org] U.S. unfunded liabilities: over 112 Trillion dollars [link to usdebtclock.org] Bloomberg: U.S. Is Bankrupt and We Don't Even Know Let’s get real. The U.S. is bankrupt. Neither spending more nor taxing less will help the country pay its bills. Based on the CBO’s data, I calculate a fiscal gap of $202 trillion, which is more than 15 times the official debt. This gargantuan discrepancy between our “official” debt and our actual net indebtedness isn’t surprising. It reflects what economists call the labeling problem. Congress has been very careful over the years to label most of its liabilities “unofficial” to keep them off the books and far in the future. [link to www.bloomberg.com] Washington Post: Obama's debt commission warns of fiscal 'cancer' "that will destroy the country from within" "We can't grow our way out of this," Bowles said. "We could have decades of double-digit growth and not grow our way out of this enormous debt problem. We can't tax our way out." Liberals also won't start frivolous wars that cost trillions of $$ and much suffering/death. Liberals do not support corruption. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 123553865% of our national debt was accrued during periods of time when Republicans controlled both the congress and presidency. So you are 100% correct. Also when you take into account the high interest rates of the 70s and 80s that means 80% of interest payments were from periods of time when Republicans controlled both the congress and presidency. So you are 100% correct. Republicans are bad for the economy. Southern Republican states have the highest poverty rates and joblessness rates. NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH THE UNEMPLOYMENT RATE. You actually have to have filled out an application within the last 90 days to be considered unemployed and be included in the official unemployment rate. To be sure. A higher percentage of Californians have jobs than ANY southern state except Texas. Even though those southern states officially have lower unemployment rates. |
