User ID: 1252967 United Kingdom 02/02/2011 11:54 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | A nurse was talking to me today... said that cases of Acinetobacter Baumannii are skyrocketing and hospitals are trying to cover it up. Quoting: RikerThe virus is extremely contagious and antibiotic resistent and in many cases is fatal. According to the nurse, there isn't a cure and you don't have to be immunocompromised to catch it - contrary to what is being published about it. wat. Atheist |

Quoting: ShadowFoxWhilst you are correct, in microbiology the name is not always an indication of just what class of microorganism it is, although it is generally the species name in bacteria. Viruses can be named after places, organisms of infection or even people. For years science thought particular fungi were bacteria, they thought archea were bacteria. Its only since the electron microscope, molecular biology and genetic engineering have we started to get a grasp on this stuff. Last Edited by Atheist on 02/02/2011 02:05 PM Atheist |

She quicky recognized my very poor pronounciation of "Acinetobacter" and called it a "nasty critter", but said her department had not been given any specific warning about any outbreaks of it yet. Always good to hear about things to keep a look out for though. "God forbid we should ever be 20 years without such a rebellion. The people cannot be all, & always, well informed... If they remain quiet under such misconceptions it is a lethargy, the forerunner of death to the public liberty... Let them take arms... What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots & tyrants. " - Thomas Jefferson in 1787 |
