Basic Compass Skills

Put a compass on counter mark where needle points. leave it alone and check periodically.

That's the easiest way to track mag. pole movement.

I would go to my library or look for a download to read.

If you want to navigate in the wild, you'll also need a map; and to know how to orient your position on the map. Hence, compass navigation is called "orienteering".

Might also google "geo caching". Kind of a neat hobby with GPS seek of hidden treasure.

Silva compass company used to publish a book and companion video on orienteering and topographical map reading. There are many aspects to successful wilderness navigation. If you have a NetFlix acct, they might have a video you can watch.
