Re: GUN THREAD... your last hold to freedom....Answers to questions you have been afraid to ask
You know what a good gun trainer will teach you? How not to shoot someone. 99.9% of the time, a gun fired straight up into the sky will prevent an attack from anyone.
 Quoting: Gabriel

You're responsible for every bullet that leaves your gun. Where's that bullet fired into the sky going to land?
 Quoting: Evil Twin

you do know that the actual bullet is the tip of the shell and is no bigger than a pea. If it falls back on your head you will wonder if bird just pooped on you.
 Quoting: Gabriel

No serious firearms instructor will ever counsel you to fire into the air. In fact, they will tell you that if you have time to fire a warning shot at all, you're probably not legally justified to shoot at all.
 Quoting: Evil Twin

Holy shit Gabriel you are fucking dumb I am sorry, I should have realized that when you recommended a 9mm.

If a bullet comes back down from the sky you will think a bird pooped on you? You need to go back to high school and take basic physics.

By the way Evil Twin. The .45 ACP is technically obsolete. .460 Rowland all the way. Just need to get people to adopt.

I saw a nice gun at the pawn shop called a Bryco, or something like that. I'm going to buy it next week.

Find your state on the list here and click it...

Buy from a private party (which is legal in most states) and the government will not know that you own it. It is generally cheaper to buy from a private party + you can avoid the round ups that the government will eventually do, starting with the people who will resist the most = gun owners.

A lot of 20ga actually kick harder than 12ga due to them usually being built lighter and not able to soak up the recoil as well.

Okay i'll start. My recommended Hand Gun would be a 9mm for several reasons. The most important reason is the availability of the Ammo if all hell broke lose in the world.
 Quoting: Gabriel

Pope John Paul at 60+ years old took 4 - 9mm bullets and lived.

I recommend .40 cal = hydrostatic shock.

NEVER fire a gun in to the sky!!! That bullet will eventually drop and could kill an innocent person.

Always fire in to the ground if you see the need to fire off a few rounds to scare someone...

OP, I am interested in purchasing my first gun, a pistol. I'm leaning towards a .40 cal Glock. I wanted to get the GEN 4 glock. It was a S&W. I get confused about that, it could be a Glock, but a Smith & Wesson glock? Although Glock is also a manufacturer? Sorry, I'm a noob.

Anyway...what do you think?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1258175

Smith & Wesson, and Glock are competing manufactures. If anyone knows differently, please post.

.40 Cal and 9mm are very similar. It comes down to ammo availability for me. .40 cal has a slightly bigger kick. Pick a gun that feels comfortable in your hand and then try it out in the firing range to see it you like it. Be sure to take a lesson please.

My recommendation for a shotgun is a 20 gauge. The reason for this is it can be handled well by the women and if necessary, your younger family members.... a lot less kick than a 12 gauge.
 Quoting: Gabriel

DISAGREE!

Buy a 12 gauge and attach a good recoil pad. If you want to STOP an intruder and your life depends on it...always use a 12 gauge with "00" buck shot!!! If you want less kick, buy the low recoil shells in addition to a good recoil pad.

I was being sarcastic. Have you ever heard of someone getting hurt from a bullet falling from he sky? I haven't but i don't get out much lol. I recommended a 9mm for first time buyers. Would you want someone who never trained or shot a gun to go out for the first time and buy a .460 Rowland??? Anyway, thanks for the imput.

I'm a gun freak and I'll give you some advice. 1911, it's an all metal gun that, if you get a A-1, is a .45 cal. The ammo is most common there is. You can't go wrong with a revolver either.
.45, because shooting twice is silly!

See that's what I was confused about, I know they are different manufacturers...I saw it in a magazine, maybe I just read it wrong?

I went to a shooting range and shot a .40 and some other ones, along with an assault rifle, AR 15 I believe. I did like the .40 and my friend said it has better stopping power than a 9mm. The Gen 4 has a slightly slimmer grip apparently so that would fit me perfect I think.

If I want to get a Gun legally in my State I have to take a class, so yeah lessons for sure.
