Before you all act like you know anything go read what the real elite say about him. There has been a lot of praise from great musicians towards slash even Eric Clapton has praised him pretty well and Eric is no guitar slouch. Id like to ass no exposure for stalker boy Ray Vaughn to that list.. just sayin.. LOL Steeeveee Ray Vaughan Eric Clapton? Meh. Saw him live and while he's technically good I don't find his playing that distinctive and he had ZERO stage presence. no exposure for stalker boy? Two bars in a Bowie song and you can tell it's him. I'd also add Hendrix, Dick Dale, Link Wray, Chuck Berry, John Frusciante, Chet Atkins, Dave Gilmour... Being distinctive imho is as important as being technically proficient. I like Daniel Ash as well but that's more my sixteen-year old self there... I'm not going to knock Slash but I don't think he's a legend either. Last Edited by Silk Spectre on 05/12/2012 02:02 PM |

Of course there are better guitar players, but he's damn fine and you can hear his playing a mile away. Others I love are: Brian May, Mark Knopfler, SRV, Leo Kotke, David 'The Lord' Gilmour, Alex Lifeson, Andy Summers, Adrian Smith, Angus Young, Jack White, Jimmy Paige, Dimebag Darrell RIP, Robert Johnson, Al di Meola and the list goes on. Discuss. Quoting: visitor 76197297 If someone doesn't think he's the best we have to post other guitarists to compare. That's not spam, it's context. But I'll post youtubes as links so it doesn't clog your bandwidth.. J Mascis is one of the best classic guitarists. Santana....he should have stuck with the SG and the Marshalls...he sounds like he's playing a buzzy toy nowadays with the PRS. He peaked with the acid and SG at woodstock. This is correct, Beck in my books is #1, After you’ve heard Santana for two or three songs....you’ve pretty much heard all he can do. I’ve been playing guitar for over 50 years and have seen Beck and Santana numerous times. Santana was boring...Beck captures your attention if you are a player. IMHO O70 |

User ID: 77807677 Taiwan 08/13/2019 08:28 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Slash is very basic. He only uses the pentatonic scale. The 70s are over. He is not even close to Paul Gilbert, John Petrucci and Steve Vai. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77856040 He knows Phrygian inside out as well. Uses it in Double Talking Jive and in the middle of the Sweet Child of Mine solo. Near the end of Godfather he's playing classical scales. I also heard he knows Dorian but don't know where he applies it. This Sweet Child of Mine ascent is Phrygian I think. Whatever it is, it has an egyptian feel and a few minor second intervals, so it's way more than pentatonic: [link to youtu.be (secure)] He switches into classical here. Could be Dorian, not sure. I think it's Mozart, Beethoven or someone. Maybe Bach: [link to youtu.be (secure)] And if he knows less scales than some of those shredders, he has 10x more musicality, and that's what the crowd want to hear. Music. He is just a so so player, nothing special. Quoting: gnr 1261741He's better than so so, but no jimmy page. Kinda modelled himself on Jimmy Page, methinks, but Pages repertoir, diversity, technical skill's and range are out of this world. Not only that, Page created a band and moulded it to be the thing that it became. |
