It's kind of like a built in excuse to say whatever the hell you want. Sorta like 'That being said...' or 'no offense'.

I love those.

When I say that, it's usually a substitute for "ya know," or "FWIW," etc. I never knew anyone took it to mean I was looking down on them? I'm sorry!
