Quoting: johnswahooWhile there was some change, the issue that I witness is this revolution ultimately failed. My family lost much money and were force to flee the country after being involved in this uprising. Regardless of my family history, this event too me has many stark comparisons to the events unfolding right now. IMO, the only similarity between then and now, is the combination of ingredients that are required for a Revolution to occur. Provocations, applied sufficiently, covering a wide spectrum, over a long period of time, produce a tinderbox. That sits and festers on until the right spark ignites it. Unemployment, Natural catastrophes, Humiliation after loss of war, or diplomatic loss of face, famine, equality, state brutality, are the different forms of provocations. The produce discontentment throughout the populace. and DE-legitimizes the state apparatus in the process. Egyptians, are fed up from the various provocations that have affected them. its not about just democracy, or bread. Just as the French Revolution was not solely about bread. These Revolutions may not succeed. However, as was the case with 1848, the uprisings will have long term far reaching implications. strategically, politically, and socially. |
