Game Theory - Elite Style (IDEAS WELCOME!)
As any consistent reader of GLP knows, there are a lot of "anomalies" right now that are emerging in the behavior of the elites (e.g. TPTB, people in the know, etc.). By anomalies, I mean behaviors that don't really make much sense when evaluated under normal circumstances. As an examples, there is the storage of books in mines (discussed here: Thread: A million library books to be sent down the mines and the well-known widespread construction work happening all around Denver Airport.

One theory is that the TPTB know we are nearing a catastrophic, near-extinction-level event, and they are secretly working to protect themselves and sacrifice the rest of us.

I want to "game" this situation. Instead of simply getting pissed that we mere mortals might be excluded from whatever plans are afoot, I want to try to game this from the perspective of a member of the "elite". By "elite", I don't mean some devil-worshipping, 97th lever Illuminati or whatever other ridiculous ideas people pass about, but from the perspective of someone who is extremely wealthy and powerful, but nonetheless enjoys normal human things like a good football game, a piece of pizza, the laughter or children, or a bit of warm sunshine on a cold day. Essentially, I want to transplant myself from my mundane existence to the pinnacle of wealth and power, and then try to see how I would react.

For the game, let's make some assumptions:

1. Knowledge, scientific or otherwise, has been discovered that there is a extinction-level class event with a very high probability of happening in the near future.

Ok, so now, we elite few are given this information, what would we do? Again, this game is predicated on the idea that the people involved are not necessarily selfish monsters, but normal people who have self-interest, but also share human traits of compassion and empathy. They do not want to die, and they do not want you, a stranger, to die, but given the choice, they would choose to save themselves.

First, I think it would become clear that we cannot save all six billion people on Earth. In fact, if this is truly a ELE, we can only save a very few, as the resources required for each survivor are huge. You need a secure living space for each individual as well as adequate supplies to survive for a potentially extended period.

Ok, so now that we know that it is literally impossible to save everybody, we would probably be concerned with, first, protecting ourselves and our loved ones. Beyond that, as normal people,we would probably hope to

a) save as many people as possible without saving so many that we endanger the resources and possibly wreck the whole enterprise
b) save as much technology and knowledge as we can so that after the ELE, the survivors can try to rebuild a society.

The tricky part would be successfully building the mammoth resources needed to ensure the survival of the human race (and our loved ones) without creating a level of mass panic that could, again, wreck the whole enterprise.

Now, sit back and game this yourselves. What would you do? You are tasked with not only trying to save your loved ones, but with the task of trying to ensure the survival of the human race, all the while keeping civilization civilized so that the massive preparations can be completed.

Think it through. Then look at the political activity around you through that lens. Lot of things that look like total leadership failures in a world that continues as normal (e.g. U.S. debt), look like a totally insignificant issue with an ELE. In fact, in many cases they seem like a totally rational approach to the problem (e.g spend like crazy and run a huge debt to build and stockpile stuff as fast as possible).

I would love some feedback.

Re: Game Theory - Elite Style (IDEAS WELCOME!)
I came the following conclusions:

1. I would need to save any "elite" and their loved ones who has knowledge of the catastrophe. They would be first on the list.

2. I would try to save a set of people with the full diversity of expert skills. The best surgeons, farmers, etc. People who can rebuild. This would also include a security team and police.

3. I would need to save the young and strong, as they would have the best probability of surviving and the best chance of reproduction.

4. I would need to save a higher percentage of women to maximize reproduction.

5. I would need to store as much knowledge and tech as I could, along with more than sufficient food and other goods.

And most importantly, I would need to hide everything from the general population. This is a tough call, but if you assume that 99% of people are going to die in a best-case scenario, you have to keep them in the dark, so as not to risk their panic destroying the whole enterprise.

Foolish.

Tell everyone. Sure there would probably be some panic. I think if we all worked together, 6 billion people could get a lot more done to prepare humanity for riding out a DOOM event.

Re: Game Theory - Elite Style (IDEAS WELCOME!)
I don't condone eugenics. I do understand your points but as far a decisions on the selection process, getting the best possible people for the jobs needs to be handled entirely differently. What sort of traits would be necessary? I've thought of this myself and asked the same questions of who the elite would choose.
Doctors of various sorts, engineers, various scientists for physics, geophysics, astronomy, biology, virology, technicians for labs and wiring, animal husbanders, farmers, energy techs and engineers, plumbers, construction workers, communications engineers and operators, teachers, also mothers and future breeders- I agree those would make rebuilding civilization much easier. But wait what about all those people that have a large skill set in a variety of areas, what about people with excellent recall and highly adaptive intelligence who score higher on intelligence tests because of that type of intelligence it takes to be innovative? What about the people who can think well under pressure. Where do you draw the line? Some people are naturally meant to be very good mothers- no other skill. Some are savants who can recite any page of the encyclopedia. Some people recycle everything. How do you choose? Do you want vicious savages, Do you want civilization to repeat by interbreeding the same stock that got us here? To get to this point in advancement only to start over with a smaller gene pool of inbreds to be our most select because of what... money? A lot of people have forewarning and all the traits necessary to make a strong, well rounded civilization. I say let the elite live with less luxury and save more of the unrecognized yet deserving people. The thinkers, the adaptives, the ones with ideas, out of the box people will find resources to rebuild where others fail.
