The Arizona Republic announced today that our jobless rate is much higher than had been reported, and higher overall than the national average. And if past trends are any indication, Arizona's economy lags the rest of the US by as much as a year when recovering from past recessions. Now I'm sorry I don't have a link for you, all I can do is relay what I have read. I've seen so many move out here thinking their troubles were over just to find things worse than where they came from. Sure, back east you have heating costs to deal with and without heating oil you will freeze to death, but Arizona's summers are just as punishing. Our electric bill for a 2500 sq.ft. home averaged $425 during the summer months last year. And each summer several people die from the heat during the monsoon season, when "it's a dry heat" becomes a load of bullshit and evaporative coolers can't keep up. Most of these deaths are among the poor, elderly and the very young. In 1990, when measured temperatures in the shade hit a record 122 degrees the major media reported 19 deaths from the heat. My Father's hospital lost 200 alone! So if you think the grass is greener, think again! They call it a desert for reason! Peace, GremlinX |
